The Apple iPad Air 5 is just around the corner - but maybe it's worth waiting for the successor. With the upcoming tablet, the innovations should be limited. A much better display can only be expected with the iPad Air 6.
iPad Air 5: OLED display only in the successor
A new iPad Air is just around the corner and could be presented to the public in March 2022. What Apple has come up with as innovations for the iPad Air 5 has not yet been fully made public, but some details have recently become more and more clear. In addition to an in-house A15 processor for the necessary performance, support for 5G should also be part of the game. In another area, however, no miracle is to be expected.
According to reports, the upcoming iPad Air will continue to be equipped with an LC instead of an OLED display after a project by Apple and Samsung was stopped. So if you want a better screen, you'll probably have to be patient. Only the iPad Air 6, which could come onto the market in 2024, is said to actually have an OLED panel installed.
LG is available as a possible partner for OLED production . The first steps are said to have already been taken there in order to be able to serve Apple's huge demand for the iPad Air 6 (source: The Elec). Apple doesn't have a lot of choice in the OLED sector anyway, after the cooperation with Samsung didn't work as desired.
How do OLED and LCD differ?
iPad display: Apple recognizes the signs of the times
Even though it took a little longer for Apple, it is now clear where the tablet display journey will go. The iPad Air 5 could be the last with LC technology . However, the next iPad Pro models should not switch to OLED, but completely to mini-LED screens.
