Xiaomi today presents the results of an independent review of its privacy policy.

An independent audit of data protection and security management was carried out in cooperation with the company TRUSTe LLC, a subsidiary of TrustArc. The audit comprehensively assessed whether the processing of personal data carried out by Xiaomi is in compliance with the European Union (EU) GDPR. The summary of the TRUSTe assurance states: "The measures described in the GDPR Validation Assessment have been designed to provide an adequate level of assurance". Thus, it is confirmed that Xiaomi meets all 40 GDPR verification requirements.

Xiaomi is the first TRUSTe certified Chinese company ever

As the first Chinese company ever to be certified by TRUSTe, Xiaomi continues to undergo an external audit, guaranteeing the data protection and privacy of its users.

The verification requirements relate to program-level actions in eight areas: Integrated Governance, Risk Management, Resource Allocation, Policies and Standards, Processes, Awareness and Training, Monitoring and Security, and Reporting and Certification. A member of TRUSTe's Global Privacy Solutions team has confirmed that Xiaomi meets the relevant validation requirements.

Cui Baoqiu, Xiaomi Vice President and Chairman of the Xiaomi Security and Privacy Committee, notes that the GDPR review process is an important step in continuously improving the company's data and security standards. "Xiaomi is committed to maintaining the highest standards of privacy policies and practices, especially for its EU users," said Cui Baoqiu. "We regularly work with TRUSTe and other credible institutions around the world to ensure that Xiaomi is constantly improving and perfecting user privacy protections, including GDPR compliance. In this way we guarantee our users reliable and trustworthy products and services. I am very pleased that Xiaomi has completed TRUSTe's annual GDPR privacy compliance audit," said the vice president and chair of the Xiaomi Security and Privacy Committee.

TrustArc, based in the US, is a global leader in privacy compliance and risk management with decades of expertise in building and evolving comprehensive privacy programs and ensuring ongoing compliance, information governance and data security.

User privacy and security is a top priority for Xiaomi

Back in 2014, Xiaomi established its Security and Privacy Committee. In 2016, Xiaomi became the first Chinese company to receive TrustArc certification. In 2019, Xiaomi's security and privacy practices were certified to ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 27018. The company also released its first version of the MIUI security and privacy whitepaper.
