Galaxy Unpacked: Samsung adds an Ultra – xiaomist Headlines

In this issue of xiaomist Headlines, we look back on two eventful weeks: the Galaxy Unpacked event, Sony's acquisition of Bungie and the future of Facebook.

New smartphones and tablets from Samsung

The Samsung Galaxy S22 and the S22 Plus are very similar to their predecessors and differ mainly in details, such as the slightly smaller display, the new Exynos 2200 or the camera equipment. Big changes can be found in the S22 Ultra. This can now inherit the Note series, which was last considered with a new smartphone in 2020.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is now equipped with the S-Pen, which is typical for the Note, with which handwritten notes can be created on the device.
Thanks to a lavish display size of 6.8 inches, that makes a lot of sense.

The prices are still high: the S22 starts at 849 euros, the Plus at 1,049 euros. The smallest version of the Ultra costs 1,249 euros.

Galaxy Tab S8 and Tab S8 Plus are also technical upgrades from their predecessors. Both now use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
The Tab S8 Ultra is new this year. It has a huge 14.6-inch AMOLED display, which should benefit mobile work in particular. The built-in front camera also speaks for this. Or rather, two front cameras, which are supposed to offer better quality for video conferences, but were accommodated in a cut at the top of the display for reasons of space.

The Galaxy Tab S8 starts at 749 euros, the S8+ at 949 euros. You can already put 1,249 euros on the table for the Ultra in the basic configuration.

Facebook stays, but users are leaving

The Facebook parent company Meta put the following on record in its annual report to the US Securities and Exchange Commission:

If we are unable to ... target ads ... we will likely be unable to offer a number of our most significant products and services, including Facebook and Instagram, in Europe.

The joy that Facebook and Instagram could soon close the hatches in this country was short-lived.
As Meta told the medium Mashable, the "interpretation of a scenario was not an indication of future business plans". Gone are the dreams of a Facebook-free world. Although some users are apparently working on it themselves. For the first time in the company's history, the social network lost more users than it gained.

The same can be seen in a current Statista survey: Facebook and WhatsApp, a messenger belonging to the same company, are nowhere near as popular as they were a few years ago. According to this, only Instagram has been able to gain users from the meta services in recent years.

Sony buys Bungie

Sony announced last week that it would acquire Bungie for $3.6 billion.
This is exciting because Bungie parted ways with none other than Microsoft in 2007.
Bungie was most recently responsible for the development of the Destiny games, but most should still be known as the creator of the Halo series.

As with the Activision takeover by Microsoft, the games should not be given exclusivity according to current plans. According to Sony Interactive CEO Jim Ryan, Bungie will continue to release games for other platforms. Rather, the focus is on the team's know-how in creating multi-platform live service games.

He then shared more details in an investor call. Sony is said to have plans for ten live service games, including one in The Last of Us universe.

And the buying could continue for the next few weeks. As gaming journalist and Game Awards host Geoff Keighley tweeted, he knows from sources that a few more big acquisitions are in the final stages of negotiations.
