{Disarmed} This is how the map looks: Xiaomi is still the leader in Spain, but things are changing
Let's start with the good news. Almost all, in fact, is good news: Xiaomi continues to lead in Spain, for the eighth consecutive quarter. Two years without moving from the top of the podium. The sales and distribution figures belong to the latest Canalys report , the one related to the fourth fiscal quarter — which includes November 2021 to January 2022 —.
However, there are many nuances and, within what we can consider positive figures, it is convenient to read and observe with a magnifying glass. Go for it.
Xiaomi leads in Spain... and it will not take long to do so in France
Let's recount: Xiaomi aspires to be the world leader in the sale of smartphones - it is not the same as in the number of distributed terminals . Not surprisingly, his rise to number 2 meant a change in strategy. But neither Apple nor Samsung have rested on their laurels.
Just yesterday, Samsung brought out its artillery for the S22 series and Apple has managed each launch as an independent battle in order to strategically position itself in the war. That is, regular updates with a more elastic release schedule.
If we look at the European trend, Xiaomi drops a few points in Spain but rises in the West European count thanks to excellent performances in countries such as Italy and France, with growth of 34 and 45% respectively compared to the same quarter last year. . In Portugal and even Poland the figures are not worse.
From the above figures we can draw some conclusions: in France, Xiaomi is on the heels of Samsung and the trend is very aggressive, as Apple has also shown a gradual decline . If it continued like this, in six months it would already be a leader. In Spain, regarding the year-on-year growth of 2021, the figures are quite modest.
It is advisable to be cautious. You only need to look at two rivals like OPPO and realme to be aware of a maxim: the competition is fierce and is stepping on the accelerator. Without ambiguity: realme increased its share by more than 1,000% in 12 countries during this 2021 . If this were an F1 race, the team manager would be on the radio yelling that there's an unknown driver lapping laps.
That (other) silent leadership
The other side of the coin is shown by Latin America and South Asia. We highlight two countries such as Colombia and Peru to exemplify this enormous growth where Xiaomi has a 29 and 35% share, respectively.
In a country as vast and with scope for expansion as Russia, its leadership is also clear: 31% unit share and 49% year-on-year growth . An excellent quarter closing that also rhymes with that of Malaysia, where they directly rise to 93% and are already placed with a 25% share. As in India , one out of every four terminals sold in the Asian country belongs to Xiaomi.
During 2021, Xiaomi broke its own records . 49 smartphones testify to this – a trend that will not stop or slow down, it should be noted. But it seems that the huge fleet of rivals minimizes the options for expansion in a stormy sea where all ships shoot to kill . With an overall growth of 7% compared to 2021, the mobile market looks more exciting than ever.
