{Disarmed} POCO M4 Pro (4G), first impressions: lighter in weight than in price
The POCO M4 Pro is official . It corresponds as one of the most interesting options in the mid-range. We have spent a few minutes with this new POCO device and then we will tell you what we thought.
A design with an air of POCO
Xiaomi seems to be refining the design more and more in the entry range, giving it a twist and going one step further.
It has a 6.43-inch screen with fairly tight frames and a camera built into the screen.
On the right side is the lock button that has the fingerprint sensor integrated in the same button . Also the buttons to raise and lower the volume.
What has caught our attention at first is that the lock and power button has a very good size that makes it easy to find. In addition, the frames are slightly rounded, but have an industrial touch that makes the grip better than usual.
On the left side we find the tray for the nano SIM card. This time it corresponds to a dual SIM device, so we can use two SIM cards.
If we look at the top we will find a pleasant surprise and it has a 3.5 mm minijack connection , a speaker and an infrared sensor.
In the lower part, the USB type C is housed, in addition to the microphone for calls and the other multimedia speaker.
Finally, we will talk about the rear. It is a design in which an evolution can be seen with respect to its predecessor . It keeps all the sensors under the same glass in a rectangular format in which two well-differentiated lines can be seen.
The first of them has a grayish color in which the main sensor and the POCO logo are housed.
On the other hand, we find the part finished in black in which two photographic sensors are housed, an LED flash, the inscription of 64 megapixels and a circle in which AI is appreciated that is in charge of keeping symmetry with the rest of the rear.

AMOLED FHD+ screen with more saturation
This POCO M4 Pro brings very good news with it and corresponds to the confirmation that Xiaomi is betting on AMOLED panels more than ever. At first glance, it corresponds to a panel that has somewhat more saturated colors than usual, but that extra intensity, despite making them less realistic, has seemed more attractive to us.
It is a panel that has an FHD + resolution along with a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz , so the experience at first has been fluid. It must also be said that it comes with MIUI 13 , which helps a lot when it comes to fluidity.
It still needs to be put to the test in different scenarios, although it looks very good.
MIUI 13 for POCO to enjoy right out of the box
MIUI 13 for POCO is the software version that comes with this POCO M4 Pro right out of the box. Of course, not everything is good news, since at the moment this version is based on Android 11 , like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 .
At first glance we find a very good performance between applications, but a lot of blotware, that is, pre-installed applications.
The icons have also changed and applications such as the Gallery or the calculator are more complete , something that is also common in other devices.
You have to test it in depth to be able to enjoy the combination between MIUI 13 and the Mediatek Helio G96 , which is the processor that integrates this device.
Correct performance for its price
As we anticipated in the technical sheet, this POCO M4 Pro has a Mediatek Helio G96 under the hood accompanied by 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage expandable through virtual RAM .
On this occasion it seems that Xiaomi has wanted to solve all the RAM problems that affected performance by betting on a more generous (and sufficient) and even expandable amount that will make everything work more comfortably.
Gaming performance is sufficient. You have to take into account the price of the device at all times. Although we have not been able to test it in depth, we have tested Asphalt 9 , a very demanding game in which the device runs the game at medium quality and in which some frame drops are observed. Let's remember that it has Game Turbo.
Of course, when it comes to making use of applications related to social networks and undemanding games, the performance has been correct.
Many cameras, few nuts
The configuration chosen by POCO for this device is composed of:
- Main sensor : 64 megapixels.
- Ultra wide angle sensor : 8 megapixels.
- Macro sensor : 2 megapixels.
It should be noted that 64-megapixel shots are limited to 16 due to Quad Pixel technology , although it is possible to enjoy all these megapixels through a specific mode.
The advantage of this technology is that it offers a two-magnification zoom with which quality is hardly lost , although it is not even remotely comparable with a telephoto lens.
As for the captures taken with the main sensor, these do not seem to be the strong point of this device. They are correct in good light conditions , in night situations they get much worse.
The ultra wide angle is really useful to be able to capture very wide or large spaces from a very short distance. The results are similar to what happens in the main sensor.
The macro sensor to capture detail has not offered us too defined images either , although it must continue to be tested in different scenarios.
The selfie camera is 16 megapixels and the photographs that we have been able to take do not offer much detail.
As far as the video is concerned, it offers a quality of up to 1080p at 30 fps .
The POCO M4 Pro (4G) promises in its price
Despite the fact that the POCO M4 Pro 5G was already presented a few months ago, the 4G version is presented as a slightly cheaper version and that may make sense for those users who are looking for a device with a slightly lower price or that their operator does not yet provide such connectivity.
The design is one of the sections in which evolution can be seen, but it is still very rough in our opinion and LITTLE aesthetic.
This device is available in Asphalt Black and POCO Yellow, at least in Spain , in the following configurations:
- LITTLE M4 (4G) 6 + `128 GB : 219 euros
- POCO M4 (4G) 8 + 256 GB : 269 euros (219 euros during the Early Bird).
