{Disarmed} Oppo breaks Xiaomi record: 240 W SuperVOOC fast charging technology for smartphones demonstrated
Oppo broke all fast charging records with the presentation of its 240W SuperVOOC technology. It is said to be able to fully charge a 4,500 mAh smartphone battery in just 9 minutes. The technology could find its way into future Oppo flagship smartphones.
There were a few battery-related announcements at MWC 2022. Realme demonstrated its 150W fast charging technology and announced the GT Neo 3 smartphone that will support this technology. Oppo did the same, but for the first time the manufacturer breaks the 200 watt mark.
Oppo introduced a new version of SuperVOOC charging technology that reaches up to 240W of power. According to Oppo, this is enough to charge a 4,500 mAh smartphone battery in less than ten minutes. While this proposition is very impressive, it is most likely a proof of concept and the technology is unlikely to be used in a commercially available smartphone any time soon.
With the ability to charge a smartphone battery at 240 watts, Oppo is ahead of pretty much everyone else. Xiaomi follows in second place with its 200W demo from last year (2021). Nubia's recently launched RedMagic 7 ships with a 165W charger.
