{Disarmed} Do you hate vegetables? You will love them with this cake recipe (chard) cooked with the Xiaomi air fryer
Yes, we know: in many homes eating vegetables is an almost lost battle and it is quite difficult for us to cook and maintain daily cleaning . However, with this recipe made with the Xiaomi Mi Smart Air Fryer 3.5 you are going to get a surprise: it is fast, it is delicious and it does not require much effort.
It is a kind of very light pudding with a juicy flavor that you can even accompany with some grilled asparagus, a warm salad or some slices of roasted aubergine . You can leave it programmed for any dinner or lunch: surely the little ones in the house will be surprised by the result.
Swiss chard cake with cheese
Ingredients for the cake:
- 1 bunch of fresh chard (500gr approx.)
- 200 grams of bread. We have used wholemeal sliced bread, although it can be substituted with spelled bread or black bread, made with barley .
- 300 ml of milk (we have used skim)
- 100 gr of chopped onion (equivalent to 1 small onion)
- 200 chopped carrot (equivalent to 2 carrots)
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 50 gr of fried tomato
- 150 gr of semi-cured cheese
- 2 medium eggs
- Ground white pepper
- Salt to taste
How to prepare the mold
This recipe could be summed up in three steps: wash the vegetables and poach them together with the chard , mix and blend everything with a blender, add the egg and bake. But there is a point that should not be ignored: the mold —either glass or metal mold—.
Due to its consistency and texture, this cake will stick to the mold if it is not previously spread. To do this, melt a little margarine (the equivalent of a tablespoon of dessert) by heating it and then spread it well throughout the glass mould . Then sprinkle enough flour to create a middle layer. Another tip to facilitate the subsequent unmolding is to keep the mold in the refrigerator until the moment of use.
Chop, poach, mix
First of all, let's start by cooking the chard. You can do it with plenty of water or in a steamer, if you have it. You will only have to prepare them by cutting them into small pieces. Once ready, put them to drain and reserve them.
Meanwhile, chop and peel the garlic and onion, dice it and use a grater for the carrot. With all the vegetables ready, we put them in the fryer basket to poach them. One of the virtues of the Xiaomi Mi Smart Air Fryer 3.5 air fryer is its ability to cook and poach with hardly any use of oil. Just spraying a couple of times, as we illustrate in our tips , will be enough. In manual, this is the program and temperatures used:
- Cooking time: 15 minutes
- Temperature: 180ºC
In an additional container, heat the milk and add the duly chopped bread. Reserve this preparation; meanwhile, grate the cheese, beat the egg lightly and add it to the milk and bread mixture . Stir this mixture until smooth.
When the vegetables are ready you can unify everything, chard, vegetable stock and the previous mixture. At this time we will add a pinch of ground pepper and a little fried tomato (of course, it can be homemade), a simple addition that will provide extra juiciness and sweetness. With all this well mixed, pour it over the mold and introduce it into the deep fryer bowl.
Now, either manually or through the Xiaomi Home application, we start to bake the cake. Although there are some dishes within the app that fit our formula —such as creamy pumpkin pie— we have chosen to cook manually. With no preheat time, this is the recipe :
- Cooking time: 30 minutes
- Temperature: 160ºC
The result, as can be seen, is similar to that of a vegetable omelette, creamier —and free of so much carbohydrate—. We recommend pairing it with a bed of roasted tomato—or just a few slices, with a pinch of dill and garlic oil—or you can even make a homemade mayonnaise , if you really hate vegetables and are making the noble effort of eating them. Take advantage!
