It's already become a tradition that Qualcomm releases two flagship chips every year. After the introduction of a new generation of the platform, an overclocked version of the SoC follows about six months later. According to rumors, a new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 version also awaits us this year, but its main difference will be the transition to TSMC's 4nm process technology.
There is already information that the new system on a chip from Qualcomm will be available in upcoming smartphones. Xiaomi is also currently testing, and the smartphone should appear in the second half of the year. The codename of the new device is L2s and it is based on a Xiaomi 12 Pro.
The release of an improved version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 this year is also rumored to be due to the fact that the top chip in its current version is made using Samsung's 4nm process technology. In terms of energy efficiency and maturity, the South Korean giant's technology is inferior to the norms of TSMC's 4nm process technology. With intensified competition in the chip market, Qualcomm needs a better solution and will therefore launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with the technology of a Taiwanese chipmaker.
