New technology only for the iPhone 15: Apple s plans have changed

Apple's plans have changed, but the manufacturer needs more time. Anyone who thought that Apple would pack its Face ID sensors for facial recognition under the iPhone display this year would be wrong. It could be as far as 2023 at the earliest.

For the iPhone 14 Pro, Apple prefers a rather unconventional design solution. According to the current state of knowledge, the upper display notch (notch) will be deleted, in its place there will be two "holes" for the camera and Face ID sensors - a circular and another pill-shaped opening. You don't get that with the competition, they either use one or the other, but not both cut-outs at the same time.

But with that, the hope of discreet integration of the Face ID sensors under the display also dies. This new technology is therefore not ready for use, Apple needs more time. This is also confirmed by the expert and Apple insider Ross Young. According to his information, Apple would not want to take this step until 2023 or even 2024 at the earliest, i.e. with the iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro, if Apple sticks to the current nomenclature (source: Ross Young).

Two Apple technologies in comparison:

Should Apple then manage to hide the front camera, then the dream of a flawless screen would be real. But the camera would have to be under the display for that. It would still be questionable whether Apple would actually only use the two-hole design at the end of the year as a transitional technology for a single year and then switch again in 2023. But this is certainly not impossible, because Apple could simply pass this technology on to the standard model of the iPhone 15 in 2023. Its predecessor, the normal iPhone 14, will have to keep the notch. Either way, the days of the notch on the iPhone are numbered, whatever comes after.
