Announced by the Government of Spain on April 27 from now - more specifically from January 1, 2022 - all cell phones , routers , speakers , scooters , projectors , watches and even Xiaomi toothbrushes that you buy have with a new guarantee, an extra year than usual.

Three-year legal warranty, ten-year spare parts
This law brings together two important battles that all users have won. The first, the right to repair , that is, the responsibility of companies to offer replacement options for the sake of an evolution in terms of sustainability, public health and food safety .
The second, the extension of the guarantee, a regulation that can be read in the BOE, in Royal Decree-Law 7/2021 . As you can see within the legal text, it is not a voluntary regulation: "the entrepreneur will be responsible for any lack of conformity that exists at the time of delivery or supply and is manifested within a period of three years from delivery " .

On the other hand, the periods of non-conformity go from 3 to 5 years and from 6 months to 1 (or 2 years, depending on the type of product) to prove and report the non-conformity . In other words, when a product does not conform to the conditions of use by the consumer, the contract can be "split" that we "sign" every time we buy something.
The consumer protection law - specifically articles 114, 115 and 116 - dictates that "The seller is obliged to deliver to the consumer and user products that are in accordance with the contract, responding to him for any lack of conformity that exists in the time of delivery of the product ".
As for the right to repair products, this regulation establishes that every manufacturer must have spare components and parts for 10 years. An ambitious supply that, as some experts point out, will lead many brands to opt for mass recycling, a decrease in innovation in favor of longer useful lives and an increase in the general cost of technological devices.
But it should be borne in mind that many large companies - and Xiaomi is recognized among them - obtain the bulk of their benefits from services, in addition to having developed strategies to recycle stacks . Digital services, applications, video or music files and others will only have a two-year guarantee, as before.
