Screensavers for the Mac are actually an anachronism, but still quite popular. Apple itself doesn't have much to offer, because the best app in this regard doesn't come from the iPhone manufacturer. Now Aerial received a major update.
Apple's selection of screensavers already installed for the Mac is quite manageable and hasn't necessarily been "fresh" for years. But if you want to keep your MacBook, iMac or Mac mini aesthetically busy during the breaks, you have been using " Aerial" for quite a while - probably the best screensaver for macOS .
Introducing Aerial 3 for Mac: Best Screensaver - Free
What makes Aerial so special? The app grabs the stunning landscape flyover videos that are up to mischief on the Apple TV as a screensaver . To this day it is actually incomprehensible why Apple does not integrate them itself. But it doesn't matter, because, as already mentioned, there is an adequate replacement with Aerial. Important to mention: The app is free and can be downloaded from the makers free of charge (Link: Aerial website). In short: A must for Mac users.

In the meantime, version 3 is also a current, larger update with some detailed improvements. First of all: Aerial 3 now includes all screensaver videos from tvOS 15, for example views of the Grand Canyon and Patagonia, but also new films from the previous Apple update from Scotland and Iceland. So much for the content, but now for the new features:
New section "Now Playing" for an easy selection of the respective videos. Downloaded videos can be saved anywhere, including network running. These videos can then be used by several people at the same time. More options for overlays: Of particular note is Apple Music and Spotify track display support for songs playing in the background. New: Vertical displays are supported. What does macOS 12 aka Monterey offer? Apple reveals the innovations:
From macOS 10.12 Sierra onwards
If you want to use Aerial 3, you should use at least a Mac with macOS 10.12 or higher. The simplest type of installation is certainly via the provided companion app (link: aerial website), but manual installation via GitHub is also possible (link: GitHub).
