Already knew? This is what the âiâ in iPhone really stands for!
Why is the iPhone actually called iPhone, what does the lowercase letter "i" really stand for? Anyone who thinks they know it so far is most likely wrong, because the whole truth has already been forgotten. We clarify.
Actually, things are clear, with the first iMac in 1998, Apple's world-famous nomenclature began - iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad. Actually correct, but what did the little "i" mean on the knobbly all-in-one?
Interesting: The "i" in iPhone doesn't just stand for "Internet"
One or the other Apple user thinks they know the answer and at the same time calls out: Internet! Correctly. The global network was just about to take off and the iMac was the ideal launch pad. But this does not completely answer the question. What was forgotten, the little "i" had other meanings.
Steve Jobs, Apple co-founder and long-time CEO, revealed the meaning of the small letter when the iMac was presented. So you could read the following other terms in English: individual, instruct, inform, inspire. In German roughly: individual, instruct, inform, inspire. The iMac was supposed to stand for all of this, later the "i" was quickly adopted for other products to this day. It thus became the unmistakable trademark of Apple - until today.
Who could forget that day in January 2007? The video shows the presentation of the very first iPhone - a revolution at the time:
The "i" no longer has a particular future
But in recent years Apple has made less and less use of it . For example, there is no iWatch or an iTV. Instead, we enjoy the Apple Watch and the Apple TV. ITunes has also been more or less buried in the meantime, that's what Apple Music is for. But the iPhone will probably continue to be called the iPhone and not the Apple Phone - we're pretty sure of that.
