The best Android smartphones under 400 euros

To get a good smartphone, you can dig deep into your pocket, but you don't have to. There are many mid-range cell phones that deliver a very good overall package and that cost less than 400 euros. xiaomist shows you which smartphones you can access with a clear conscience.

Manufacturers such as Xiaomi and Samsung in particular are not to be despised when looking for a mid-range smartphone. You don't necessarily have to do without 5G technology either. So if you are looking for a new cell phone with a convincing inner workings and still not costing more than 400 euros , we recommend the following models.

OnePlus Nord 2 5G

With the Nord 2 5G , OnePlus shows, as the name suggests, that you can get a future-proof smartphone with 5G cellular technology for less than 400 euros. As with its predecessor, the OLED display impresses with its rich colors. The Nord 2 5G also features the MediaTek Dimensity 1200-Ai , a fast eight-core processor that was specially developed for OnePlus. Together with the high graphics performance, gaming on the smartphone is a lot of fun.

Again, Stiftung Warentest (10/2021) only rated the camera as satisfactory. Although you benefit from an optical image stabilizer with the Nord 2 5G, which automatically compensates for unwanted movements during the recording, good lighting conditions are necessary for good pictures . But if you can refrain from it, you still get a successful smartphone with the OnePlus Nord 2 5G, whose battery performance is also convincing.

By the way: If you want to spend a little more money and are fans of the good old arcade games, the OnePlus Nord 2 5G is now also available in a PAC-MAN edition . Unpacking should already be a lot of fun.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro

When it comes to mid-range phones, everyone is talking about Xiaomi right now. So it is not surprising that we have the manufacturer on our list. Our editor Peter Hryciuk had already tested the smartphone in May 2021 with the conclusion that the Redmi Note 10 Pro delivers a very good overall package, especially if you can do without 5G .

In terms of performance, the Xiaomi still has some room for improvement , because despite the 120 Hz display, the display can occasionally jerk . Again, don't forget about camera performance. With its 128 MP camera you can take really nice pictures, although the lighting conditions have to be right and the optical image stabilizer is missing.

But above all, the AMOLED display and the generally high-quality workmanship of the smartphone are positive. As a little gimmick, it also has an infrared sensor so that it can be used as a remote control.

Operating system MIUI 12 based on Android 11 Display 6.67 inch AMOLED DotDisplay 2,400 x 1,080 pixels 120 Hz Processor Snapdragon 732G RAM 6 or 8 GB Internal memory 64 or 128 GB (expandable) Camera 16 MP front camera 108 MP wide angle 8 MP ultra wide angle 5 MP telemacro camera 2 MP depth sensor battery 5020 mAh (quick charge function, wired) Special features IP53 (protection against dust and spray water) Jack connection Triple SIM slot

Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G

Samsung launched several models one after the other with its Galaxy A52 series this year. At first glance, there aren't many differences between the siblings, but what counts is the inner values: The latest model, the Galaxy A52s 5G , has the Snapdragon 778G processor and thus four high-speed processor cores. In practical terms, this means that apps, for example, run significantly faster than their predecessors.

Those who value the camera are in good hands with the entire A52 series. All models are equipped with a 64-megapixel camera, which is really impressive and also impresses with optical image stabilization. According to Stiftung Warentest, the A52-5G model is only the winner in terms of battery life with over 42 hours . The A52s , on the other hand, lasts for 33 hours. Sure, in the end the A52s 5G would be the future-proof variant, but to quote my colleague Peter: "You can't go wrong with any A52." (More on this in the detailed xiaomist test report of the Samsung A52 5G)

Operating system OneUI 3.1 based on Android 11 Display 6.5 inch Super AMOLED 2,400 x 1,080 pixels 120 Hz Processor Snapdragon 778G RAM 8 GB Internal memory 128 or 256 GB (expandable) Camera 32 MP front camera 64 MP main camera 12 MP ultra wide angle 5 MP tele macro camera 5 MP depth sensor, battery 4,500 mAh (fast charging function, wired) Special features IP67 (dustproof and protection in the event of brief immersion) Jack connection, optical image stabilization

Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro

Yes, we already had a Xiaomi in our article, but since once is not a single one, we have another model up our sleeve that we would like to recommend to you. With a price under 300 euros, the Poco X3 Pro is unbeatable and not only that: With the Snapdragon 860, it has a more powerful processor than the Redmi Note 10 Pro. This brings noticeable advantages in terms of performance.

With this model, not only the processor is convincing, but also the battery. With 5,160 mAh, it runs for 45 hours at normal brightness, according to Stiftung Warentest, and is already charged after an hour and a half. We don't want to forget the camera quality at this point: With its 48 megapixels, it depends on good lighting conditions, but thanks to the dual video function , you can film with the front and rear cameras at the same time.

Xiaomi has once again used high-quality materials for the Poco X3 Pro, so that the smartphone makes a really good impression not only on the inside, but also on the outside. Although you have to do without 5G, with the Poco X3 Pro you get a smartphone that doesn't show its low price .

Operating system MIUI 12 based on Android 11 display 6.67 inch FHD + dot display 2400 x 1080 pixels 120 Hz processor Snapdragon 860 RAM 6 or 8 GB internal memory 128 or 256 GB (expandable) camera 20 MP front camera 48 MP main camera 8 MP ultra Wide angle 2 MP macro camera 2 MP depth sensor battery 5,160 mAh (quick charge function, wired) Special features IP53 (protection against dust and spray water) Jack connection

Finally, a note on prices: I expect strong price fluctuations, especially with cell phones. As soon as a new generation appears, the previous series can quickly suffer a drop in price - which means that models that were previously too expensive suddenly fit into your personal budget. Deal events like Black Friday also mess up the price structure. Bargain hunters are always on the lookout for current offers, it's worth it.
