Google Pixel 6 (Pro): Problems with display, camera & software updates - the solutions

Every new smartphone struggles with problems that are more or less bad. The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are no exception. There are solutions to some of the problems that are already known - partly from Google itself.

Google Pixel 6 (Pro): The Known Issues

Update from November 2nd, 2021: Google was able to fix the problem with CO2 (see below).

Original article:

Google started shipping the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro a few days ago. As with every new smartphone, problems surfaced shortly afterwards. There are known problems with the display, camera and software.

Flickering display on the Pixel 6 Pro

Some users have reported that the LTPO OLED display with variable refresh rate of the Pixel 6 Pro flickers. If you switch on the smartphone via the power button and hold it down a little longer than is necessary. Then stripes can appear on the display and it can start to flicker.

Google has already promised a software update for this problem (source: Golem). Since this is not a hardware problem, but a software problem, Google can fix the problem quickly and easily with the December update.

Spots on the camera

Both the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro show "spots on the camera" (source: SmartDroid). Specifically, however, it is about spots on the images, not directly on the camera. In the case of low-light images in particular, users have discovered a bright spot that cannot be explained.

There is currently no solution to this problem. It's unclear if it's a software or hardware problem. Google is likely to take on the problem, because the camera is one of the most important selling points for the smartphone.

Day-One-Patch cannot be installed (fixed)

Google has released a day-one patch for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which should be installed immediately after setup in order to receive the final software. O2 customers cannot install this patch because it is not offered to them (source: Caschy).

The problem can be solved by inserting a different SIM card into the Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro that works in a different network - i.e. from Telekom or Vodafone.

Update: Google has adjusted the update server. O2 users can now also install the day-on patch.

In the video we show you what makes the Pixel 6 so special:

Google Pixel 6 Pro is a best seller

Just minutes after the introduction of the Google Pixel 6 Pro, the high-end model was sold out . Since then, everyone has been waiting for supplies. On eBay, prices rise to up to 1,200 euros per smartphone. It will be exciting to see whether the great demand can be met in a timely manner. In the test of the Google Pixel 6 Pro you will find out why the interest is so great.
