{Disarmed} Android 12 has annoying material You-Bug
The wallpaper-based design in Android 12, also known as Material You, is obviously one of the operating system's best features. However, a bug will force some games to stop when you change the wallpaper.
A new bug report in the Google Issue Tracker explains how the problem is causing some games to crash. According to the report, changing the wallpaper on Android 12 devices causes app activities to restart due to a configuration change. This setting is intended to ensure that apps adapt correctly to the Material You theme of the background image.
It's not that you normally change the screen background while playing a game, but when you do, the game you are playing appears to crash or restart because of that configuration change. That's because the configuration is applied to all apps and games by default, regardless of whether they use the Material You theme or not.
If you're using an automatic wallpaper changer, this can be a major annoyance. According to XDA, the bug appears to affect some of the best Android games, including Wild Rift, Pokémon Go, Genshin Impact, Call of Duty: Mobile, PUBG Mobile, and Minecraft.
Certain configuration changes, such as Game developers, for example, can usually avoid dark mode or screen rotation. However, at the moment there doesn't seem to be an option to opt out of changing the background configuration for game titles.
