Xiaomi smartphones: Android update policy continues to improve
Xiaomi has already announced that at least two new smartphones will receive Android updates longer than usual. The Chinese company probably wants to expand this strategy and occasionally supply smartphones for longer. However, the update guarantee is not quite as extensive as with Samsung.
Xiaomi: update guarantee soon for the middle class too?
When the Xiaomi 11T and 11T Pro were presented, the Chinese company announced that both high-end smartphones would receive three major system updates and four years of security updates. That was it already. Xiaomi does not want to commit to other smartphones. There will also be updates for the normal Mi-11 models, but without a guarantee. At least in India, Xiaomi has now also issued an update guarantee to the same extent for the 11 Lite NE 5G :
The Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G was also presented in Germany. It's very strange that an update guarantee has been announced for the 11T and 11T Pro , but not for the mid-range smartphone, even though it has such an update guarantee in India. Will the German customers not receive any updates even though they would be available in India for the exact same smartphone? We can hardly imagine it.
It is clear that Xiaomi has to significantly improve its update policy. At the moment it is still enough to just throw countless smartphones on the market and publish an update every now and then, but the competition is doing much better. Samsung has even promised an update guarantee of four years for old smartphones in all price ranges and is sticking to it. Xiaomi will have to follow suit at some point.
This Xiaomi smartphone, which we show you in the video , will be supplied with Android updates for four years:
