The smartphone market has only one winner: Apple
A big plus of over 20 percent: In the third quarter of 2021, Apple outperformed the competition. While the large competitor Samsung in particular had to give up, the iPhone manufacturer was able to make significant gains. One detail makes the success even more remarkable.
Problems in the global supply chain are now also affecting the smartphone market. According to the market researchers from IDC, deliveries fell by 6.7 percent in the third quarter of 2021 (source: IDC). The bottom line is a minus of 2.9 percent. However, Apple is completely unimpressed by this .
Global smartphone market: only Apple is making significant gains
As the only manufacturer in the top 3, the Californians were able to make significant gains. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the market share made a huge jump from 11.7 to 15.2 percent . And the number of devices delivered also sets an exclamation point: 50.4 million iPhones were sold over the counter - almost 10 million more than in the same period of the previous year.
However, it looks less rosy for the competition: Samsung was able to defend its title as the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. In terms of market share, however, the South Koreans have to be satisfied with 20.8 percent instead of 22.7 percent . Xiaomi, on the other hand, is de facto stagnating: At 13.4 percent, the market share in Q3 / 2021 was only 0.3 percent above the same quarter of the previous year.
It should be an iPhone 13? In this video we show the differences:
iPhone 12 mainly responsible for success
Remarkable: Apple's new iPhone 13 is unlikely to have made a significant contribution to the good quarterly figures . The new Apple cell phone has only been available in stores since the end of September. The success is largely based on the 12 series and older iPhones that Apple still has on offer. With the iPhone 13 Pro, which has long-awaited features such as a ProMotion display, Apple is also well equipped for the coming quarters - at least as long as the US company is largely spared delivery problems.
