Visually, the iPhone 13 may not have changed much compared to its predecessor, but technically the new Apple cell phone wins tremendously. Especially with regard to the camera, even the inexpensive standard model is surprising with performance that you would probably not expect.

In the current review by the renowned camera professionals from DxOMark it turns out: The simple iPhone 13 is better than the expensive Pro version from last year and in the end even pulls the same as the iPhone 12 Pro Max (source: DxOMark).

Camera performance: iPhone 13 overtakes the iPhone 12 Pro

Overall, the camera of the iPhone 13 achieved an impressive 130 points , as did the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The simple Pro model from the previous year had to be content with 128 points. Seems like a close thing, right? Perhaps, but if you consider that the hundreds of euros cheaper model in Apple's portfolio photographically "bagged" the top model from the previous year, this is more than astonishing.

Worth mentioning: A worse result for the "old" Pro models is only prevented by a special feature on closer inspection. The iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max can score more points when zooming alone . This is not surprising, as the normal iPhone 13 still only has two lenses (wide and ultra wide angle), while the Pro versions also have a telephoto lens. In return, the 13er pulls straight to the 12 Pro Max in the pure photo evaluation and even defeats the simple 12 Pro. The standard model is becoming more attractive again

DxOMark has already tested the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 mini beforehand. Photographically, these are identical in the evaluation to their sister models. Means: The iPhone 13 Pro Max also scores 137 points and the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini are tied with 130 points.

In summary: In 2021, professional camera results will no longer necessarily require an iPhone Pro. This fact makes the standard model even more attractive, after Apple was able to score well with an increase in the memory configuration.
