Google Pixel 6: Update guarantee for Android even better than expected

Google will introduce the new Pixel 6 smartphones next week. Many details have already been leaked in advance, some of which came directly from Google. Including the update guarantee of five years. Further details have now emerged.

Google wants to offer four OS updates for the Pixel 6

Now, Google has already confirmed that the new Pixel 6 smartphones will receive security updates for a total of five years so that they can be used safely over a longer period of time. The company left out how many new system versions of Android are being installed. For comparison: Samsung promises four years of security updates and three years of new Android operating system versions. Initially, three OS versions were also expected. But Google puts one on top .

A source on Twitter claims that Google will distribute a total of four operating system versions for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Since the new smartphones with Android 12 hit the market, Android 13, 14, 15 and 16 will still be available until 2026 . Security updates are guaranteed until 2027.

Google would outdo all other smartphone manufacturers with Android operating systems and finally provide the update guarantee that pixel smartphones deserve. This should only be possible at all with the Pixel 6, as Google relies on its own tensor processor and thus also has power over the driver supply. Older smartphones often do not receive any updates because the processor is no longer supported. In that case, Google has the reins in hand and significantly extends the update guarantee .
