But it is the software that makes the two Google phones so special. I was able to get a first impression and I am very impressed.

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are the first smartphones that can actually be called real Google phones . Only with the development of its own tensor chip is it possible for the company to integrate functions that were previously unthinkable on the smartphone. The hardware has been perfectly adapted to the software and you can feel that with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The great thing about the next generation is that the new software features actually work in Germany as well.

Live translation:

If you receive several messages in a different language in a messenger, the live translation suggests that the messages be translated automatically. You just download the appropriate languages ​​and can, for example, see the translation directly in WhatsApp - just as if the other contact had answered you in German. Works very well with the Polish language, even if the grammar is not always perfect. The live translation also works in the camera or via the Google Assistant as an interpreter. The new version of the recorder on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro is powerful. You speak and a transcript can be created directly. You can then search in it directly. The special? This also works offline without a connection to the Internet.

Magic Eraser:

There is now a function in Google Photos called "Magic Eraser". This makes it easy to remove unwanted areas from a photo . All you have to do is select a photo, roughly mark the part that you would like to have removed, and the software removes the part and recreates the part so that you don't notice what was there. Call screening has been around for a long time in the USA and now the Google Assistant function is also being activated in Germany. Google will check if it is a known spam number. Further improvements with Android 12

These were just the most important innovations implemented on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. There are many other improvements to Android 12 , such as security. We already mentioned our own tensor processor and the design of the smartphones had been known for weeks. The display of the Pixel 6 works at 90 Hz, measures 6.4 inches and has an FHD + resolution. The display of the Pixel 6 Pro works at 120 Hz and is a 6.7-inch LTPO display with 3,120 x 1,440 pixels that is extremely sharp. Both are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

The battery has a capacity of 4,614 mAh (Pixel 6) and 5,003 mAh (Pixel 6 Pro). These can be charged quickly by cable (30 watts) or wirelessly (12 watts). Chargers are not included. There is 8 GB of RAM on the Pixel 6 and 12 GB of RAM on the Pixel 6 Pro. Both have 128 GB of internal storage. The Pro model is available for 100 euros more but also with 256 GB. The memory cannot be expanded .

The smartphones can be unlocked with optical in-display fingerprint sensors. They work quite well, but models with ultrasound would be better. The area is also quite small. This point and the weight of 207 grams for the Pixel 6 and 210 grams for the Pixel 6 Pro are the most noticeable disadvantages so far. In addition, the Pixel 6 is unnecessarily large in my opinion and has very thick frames around the screen. But it costs significantly less.

Completely new cameras in the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro

The cameras are completely new. The main camera now has a resolution of 50 MP , the sensors have become significantly larger so that much more light can be captured. Photos are taken at 12.5 MP, the pixel binning technology is always switched on, thus permanently combining four pixels into one. There is also a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle lens. The Pixel 6 Pro also has a 48 MP telephoto lens with periscope technology. This enables a fourfold optical zoom. A maximum of 20x "super-resolution zoom" is possible. Both the main and the zoom cameras are optically image stabilized.

Price and availability of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro

The Pixel 6 costs 649 euros with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The Pixel 6 Pro with 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage costs 899 euros . The 256 GB version costs 999 euros. My assessment

The first impression of the Pixel 6 Pro is excellent . Google has finally built the smartphone that really lives up to its name.
