{Disarmed} Xiaomi overtakes Samsung and is the new number 1 in 5G smartphones
According to the latest study by Strategy Analytics, Xiaomi will be able to claim an estimated 42 percent of all 5G smartphone shipments in Central and Eastern Europe in the third quarter of 2021. This corresponds to a growth of 5,700 percent compared to the previous year.
"Xiaomi is the leading provider of Android 5G smartphones worldwide in Q3 2021 and the leading 5G smartphone provider in Central and Eastern Europe as a whole," said Ville-Petteri Ukonaho, Associate Director at Strategy Analytics. "Xiaomi's 5G smartphone shipments have overtaken Apple and Samsung over the past year and have taken the top spot for 5G smartphones in the region."
"Xiaomi is expected to maintain its leadership in the Central and Eastern Europe region for all of 2021 and to remain the market leader in 5G smartphone deliveries in 2022," said Yiwen Wu, senior analyst at Strategy Analytics. "Xiaomi benefits from the absence of Huawei as well as from its own portfolio of high-quality, affordable 5G smartphones such as the Redmi Note 9T 5G and the Mi 11 5G."
But other providers don't stand still either. Apple took second place in 5G smartphone shipments in the Central and Eastern Europe region in the 3rd quarter of 2021, in only its third quarter of offering 5G smartphones. Apple can expect a strong 4th quarter for its iPhone 13 lineup, but higher prices will limit its reach in the region.
Samsung took third place with its range of more affordable 5G smartphones with a share of 11.5 percent of 5G smartphones shipped in the region, a decrease of 34.3 percent in the same quarter of the previous year. Realme and OnePlus rounded off the top 5 5G smartphone providers in Central and Eastern Europe with a share of 7.2 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively, of 5G smartphone deliveries.
