Xiaomi donates 100,000 euros to the Spanish Red Cross to help those affected by the La Palma volcano

The Xiaomi Foundation , an NGO founded by CEO Lei Jun, has announced that it has just donated 100,000 euros to the Spanish Red Cross , in order to support and provide solutions to all the people affected by the volcano that hits the island of La Palma.

It seems that the Cumbre Vieja volcano does not stop. And, in its wake, its damages are increasingly important. With more than 450 people evacuated on La Palma, people who have lost everything, Xiaomi has decided to do its bit and make a small donation.

The Xiaomi Foundation collaborates with those affected by the La Palma volcano

In this regard, Borja Gómez Carrillo, Country Manager of Xiaomi Iberia, has stated the following:

«From Xiaomi Spain we want to send all our support and solidarity to those affected by the volcano on La Palma. We are closely following this catastrophe and as a company that operates in Spain, we are very committed to humanitarian support and we want to do our bit to help all the people who are suffering the effects of this volcano every day.

This is by no means the first time that Xiaomi is involved in a social cause and donates a large sum to help. With more than 2,600 people already assisted, the Red Cross works in coordination with different authorities as it did together with the Dutch National Fund and Giro 777 Catastrophes due to the great floods last summer.

The Xiaomi Foundation has been involved in different social tasks for years. And in Spain it was already seen in 2020, when it collaborated with the Spanish government by donating 130,000 FFP3 masks to the Ministry of Health. Xiaomi also donated several hundred lots to other countries such as Italy, France, Germany, Ukraine, Poland or the United Kingdom.

That same year, Lei Jun donated the equivalent of 50 million yuan (6,560,000 euros) of his own shares in the company, to make his NGO more operational.

This time, the aid to the Spanish Red Cross will serve to empower «assistance to affected people in basic supplies, such as food, hygiene, accommodation, etc., and in the coming months the recovery and labor integration of people who have lost their livelihoods ", in the words of Jaime Gregori, director of Fundraising and Alliances with Red Cross Companies.
