On November 1st, WhatsApp will be switched off on some Android smartphones. Then users no longer have access to the messenger. Because Facebook prohibits old devices from accessing WhatsApp.
WhatsApp is available for devices with Android 4.0.4 or higher. From November 1st, however, this will no longer be sufficient, then any device with a version older than Android 4.1 will lose the ability to update. The old versions are considered too insecure, with this measure Facebook wants to guarantee the security of the app and the privacy of the users.
On WhatsApp you can read that at least Android 4.1 or higher must be installed as a prerequisite for installing or updating the messenger on Android. And so there is no support for the following models:
- Samsung Galaxy Galaxy Trend Lite, Galaxy Trend II, Galaxy SII, Galaxy S3 mini, Galaxy Xcover 2, Galaxy Core and Galaxy Ace 2.
- LGLucid 2, Optimus Prime F7, Optimus F5, Optimus L3 II Dual, Optimus Prime F5, Optimus L5, Optimus L5 II, Optimus L5 Dual, Optimus L3 II, Optimus L7, Optimus L7 II Dual, Optimus Prime L7 2, Optimus Prime L7 II, Optimus Prime F6, Enact, Optimus L4 II Dual, Optimus Prime F3, Optimus L4 II, Optimus L2 II, Optimus Prime Nitro HD and 4X HD and Optimus F3Q.
- ZTE: Grand S Flex, ZTE V956, Grand X Quad V987 and Grand Memo.
- Sony Xperia Miro, Sony Xperia Neo L, Xperia Arc S.
- Archos 53 Platinum, HTC Desire 500, Caterpillar Cat B15, Wiko Cink Five, Wiko Darknight, Lenovo A820, UMi X2, Faea F1 and THL W8.
- Huawei Ascend Mate and Ascend D2Alcatel: One Touch Evo 7.
What can you do about it? Nothing really, except to buy a new cell phone. Probably very few of you will be using Android 4.1 or older, after all, the operating system is now 10 years old. But you could ask your relatives whether grandma or grandpa still use such an old device.
