{Disarmed} Sony is getting ready for the Android 12 update

Sony is a contributor to the Android Open Project and has contributed a lot of code over the years. Sony also operates and maintains its own Xperia Open Devices program, which makes it easy for developers to tinker with AOSP on their current Sony devices. With the release of Android 12, Sony has now added AOSP building instructions for Android 12 to Xperia Open Devices.

Sony publishes device trees, kernel trees, binaries, and build instructions to compile AOSP for all devices in the program. These releases have been around for a few years, and the resources have now been updated for Android 12. With these Android 12 compatible binary files and the step-by-step instructions for AOSP 12.0 for selected Xperia devices, developers and experienced users now have the tools to tinker with Android 12 a little.

To get started, you need a PC with Linux (Sony recommends Ubuntu 18.04 LTS) or Windows 10 with Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). The next part is configuring the build environment, which means installing a suitable version of the Java Development Kit, a handful of software packages and libraries, and the repo tool for working with multiple repositories. Then you have to download the entire Android 12 source code tree and the local manifests for the Xperia devices and follow the step-by-step instructions in the instructions in order to successfully compile AOSP images. If everything goes well, the AOSP 12.0 images should then be ready to flash onto the Sony smartphone.

The bootloader of the Xperia device must be unlocked before you can flash the build. In addition, a platform-specific image containing the low-level software binary files must be flashed as a manufacturer image.
