Samsung has patented something really interesting. The company has been granted a patent for a double-sided (under-the-display) fingerprint scanner that it could potentially use in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 next year.
This patent appeared at the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) and was discovered by LetsGoDigital. It was submitted on March 31st but was not released until October 7th. This fingerprint sensor seems to be made for foldable devices. Samsung seems to have found a way to put in a sensor that basically captures two fingerprints.

In this way, an under-display fingerprint sensor would be usable on both the main display and the cover display on the outside. The company placed a small printed circuit board (PCB) between the sensors that is connected to the motherboard.
Even if Samsung could not yet install this dual fingerprint sensor in the Galaxy Z Fold 4, in the subsequent Galaxy Z Fold 5 it should be an option that Samsung will probably not be able to avoid.
