Wear OS 3.0: Google and Samsung exclude smartwatch competition
Google and Samsung developed Wear OS 3.0 together and combined the best features of Wear OS and Tizen in the new smartwatch operating system. However, the competition does not benefit from this, as is currently clearly shown.
Wear OS 3.0 so far only available for Samsung smartwatches
Wear OS, like Android, is actually an operating system from Google that can be used by any manufacturer who concludes a license agreement. It seems to be different with Wear OS 3.0. The collaboration between Samsung and Google seems to have a downside for other manufacturers. Fossil recently unveiled stylish new smartwatches with the Gen 6. Although it is technically up to date, it only runs Wear OS 2.0. How is that possible? We checked with Fossil .
According to Fossil, the update from Wear OS 2.0 to Wear OS 3.0 is not yet available. In fact, Google has also said that updates are not expected until the end of 2022 . Why didn't the watches come out with Wear OS 3.0? After all, Samsung has launched the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic with the new software. That remains open and can only mean that the new software is not available for every smartwatch manufacturer.
Fossil is of course the first manufacturer to introduce new smartwatches after Samsung. Only with the next manufacturer will it become clear whether Google and Samsung are deliberately holding back the new operating system. For Samsung this is of course a huge advantage, because app developers are already dropping Wear OS 2.0 like a hot potato. Everything revolves around Wear OS 3.0 and only the Galaxy Watch 4 models from Samsung offer that .

Wear OS 3.0: Only a few smartwatches receive the update
It has been clear for a long time that very few smartwatches receive an update to Wear OS 3.0 because the built-in hardware is too old. Only models from Snapdragon Wear 4100 are supplied. There are at most a handful of them. So it's no wonder that Google takes its time with this.
