Old AirPods won t fly out: what is Apple up to?
The AirPods 3 can be expected for the iPhone event, but Apple will probably not simply discontinue the predecessors. What does the manufacturer have in mind, what are the plans and how expensive will the new headphones be?
Apple insider Ming-Chi Kuo confirms previous reports - Apple will actually present the AirPods 3 at the same time as the iPhone 13 on Tuesday. But he cannot definitively answer the price question either , two possible approaches are conceivable for him (source: Ming-Chi Kuo via MacRumors).
Despite AirPods 3: Apple does not want to throw out its predecessor
Regardless of which one will arrive, according to Kuo, Apple will still leave the AirPods 2 as a (cheap) option in its portfolio . A tactic that we already know from the iPhone and Apple Watch. Instead of developing a budget model, you simply leave an older version in the program. But which two scenarios are now possible?
Number 1: AirPods 3 will be more expensive than AirPods 2 , AirPods 2 will not be reduced in price. Number 2: The AirPods 3 take over the original price point of the AirPods 2 , the AirPods 2 are reduced in price. It gets more complicated again, because the Beats Studio Buds from Apple ( in the video ) are also a cheap alternative to the new AirPods 3 and even offer ANC (watch it on Amazon):
No wired charging case for the new AirPods
What Kuo does not explicitly take up is a rumor of the past few days. As a result, the AirPods 3 will only be available with a wireless charging case , with the AirPods 2 the customer still has the choice. What would therefore also be conceivable for us: The AirPods 2 with a wired charging case will remain in the portfolio and will be slightly reduced in price, the AirPods 3 cost as much as the AirPods 2 with a wireless charging case, but they'll be out of the picture. Whatever happens, we will be able to experience it in the livestream for the Apple event - it starts at 7 p.m. on September 14th.
