iPhone 13 extraterrestrially good: New Apple feature for emergencies

According to Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo, the upcoming iPhone 13 could even be "extraterrestrial" this time and thus have a surprising feature ready for emergencies. However, nothing is 100% certain yet, other experts are not expecting the function until 2022 - exciting.

Ming-Chi Kuo is rarely wrong, his predictions about new Apple products are considered reliable in the industry, after all, the expert and insider has been well connected for years and has appropriate sources. Now he reveals: The iPhone 13 becomes a satellite phone in an emergency and is still suitable for phone calls and SMS when no 4G or 5G network is available (source: Ming-Chi Kuo via MacRumors).

The iPhone 13 a satellite phone?

If the worst comes to the worst, the iPhone 13 will then be able to establish a connection to so-called LEO satellites in space . These are artificial satellites that are in a low orbit (LEO = low earth orbit). An example of such a technology is the Starlink satellite network that was recently in focus - intended for worldwide Internet coverage. However, Apple will probably have to access a different network.

As Kuo mentioned, the Qualcomm X60 chip built into the iPhone 13 supports a corresponding satellite connection that will probably be compatible with Globalstar . Rumor has it that Qualcomm has allegedly worked with Globalstar to support the corresponding n53 tape in future X65 chips. It is reasonable to assume that the same applies to the chip in the iPhone 13.

In the video we show the "ultimate" iPhone, as our readers imagine it:

When Apple is ready

But do you still need another contract with the satellite provider in the future in order to be able to use the feature? Not necessarily. The Apple expert assumes that individual network operators will work directly with Globalstar . Customers of a partner network operator could use Globalstar's satellite communication service on the iPhone 13 without going through their "normal" network operator. No additional contracts or payments would be required. Kuo also suspects that other Apple products could communicate via satellite in the future. Apple's "mixed reality head-mounted display device", electric vehicles and other IoT (Internet of Things) accessories are explicitly mentioned.

But is the time really ripe for it? In the meantime, the news magazine Bloomberg confirms the latest report by Ming-Chi Kuo, but robs us of any hope of an early implementation (source: Bloomberg). According to the reporters, the iPhone 13 should have the appropriate hardware, but the software should not be ready for the launch of the new Apple cell phone . The feature would then be ready for use in the next year at the earliest, and users could then send text messages via satellite in an emergency if there is no cellular connection.

We'll find out what really applies to the presentation of the iPhone 13. The time will come in just a few weeks, presumably on September 14th . So we don't have to wait long to check the truth of the latest prediction.
