Xiaomi 11T Pro, first impressions: the devastating charging speed of this mobile will shake the foundations of the high-end range

Xiaomi launches high-end smartphones. The price and specifications of the new 11T and 11T Pro clearly reflect that these mobile phones are aiming high , especially the latter due to its slightly more ambitious features. And it is that these two newcomers intend to elbow their way into a segment in which to differentiate themselves it is often necessary to thread very fine.

We have had the opportunity to test the more advanced model of the two, the 11T Pro , with some detail, and although we are preparing a more in-depth analysis that we will publish as soon as we have it ready, in these first impressions we can anticipate many of the surprises that this terminal has in store for us. And some are juicy.

However, before getting into flour here you have some brushstrokes that allow us to intuit quite clearly what the new 11T Pro offers us. Its screen with a 120 Hz AMOLED panel and compatibility with Dolby Vision content, its Snapdragon 888 processor cooled with a camera of vapor, its 8 GB of LPDDR5 main memory, its 5000 mAh battery and its triple rear camera anticipate that we are in front of a full-fledged high-end range. This is how it went in our first contact.

Its continuous design has not fallen in love with us, but it has left us with a good taste in our mouths.

The photographs that illustrate this article leave no doubt about how much the design of this smartphone resembles that of the latest high-end terminals that Xiaomi has launched, such as the Mi 11 or the Mi 11 Ultra . Of course, its camera module, as we will see later, is not as bulky, nor as Martian, as that of this latest mobile phone, which, surprisingly, also incorporates a peculiar secondary screen.

The semiconductor crisis is the consequence of a perfect storm: why it is not so easy to solve it simply by making more chips In xiaomist.com The semiconductor crisis is the consequence of a perfect storm: why it is not so easy to solve it simply by making more chips

Frequently the latest smartphones of the same category from any manufacturer look alike, but this continuity diminishes the ability to surprise us that the new 11T Pro has. This mobile phone does not have the thinnest frames, nor is it the most stylish, but its design It is refined enough to fit perfectly into a high-end range in which, as I mentioned a few lines above, to differentiate itself it is almost always necessary to take risks and break with continuity.

In the following detail photograph we can see that the front camera does not go unnoticed at all. Until very recently this was not a problem at all, and, in fact, we know from your comments that many users prefer the cameras integrated in the screen in this way than having a notch .

The cameras under the screen are slowly making their way. For us this is the way to go

However, little by little we are witnessing that the cameras under the screen are making their way, and the truth is that after having checked how well the camera integrated in the main screen of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G is resolved, I firmly believe that This is the way to follow.

Xiaomi11tprodiseno2

The camera module imposes its presence on the back of this smartphone, something, on the other hand, which is common in most terminals, especially if they are high-end and incorporate three or more cameras. Xiaomi has coated the AMOLED panel with a sheet of Gorilla Glass Victus glass, but has not told us what protection it has used on the back of this mobile phone (it will probably be a different version of the glass manufactured by Corning).

Xiaomi11t back

In the following detail photograph we can see that the camera module protrudes several millimeters from the back of this smartphone. As cameras have become more sophisticated and have increased in number, we have witnessed the unstoppable growth and bulk of this module. Let's trust that we have already reached the ceiling because, otherwise, it will soon seem that some mobiles have gotten a hump. The bulkiness of this 11T Pro isn't over the top, but it certainly doesn't go unnoticed either.

Xiaomi11tprodisenocameras

The machining of the metal frame of this smartphone is impeccable, which contributes to the fact that in hand it transmits a very noticeable feeling of solidity. However, there is a detail that, in my opinion, has room for improvement. In the following detail photograph we can see that the insertion of the Gorilla Glass Victus glass sheet in the metal frame is confined in a second black frame .

The absence of structural elements that act as intermediaries stylizes. The design of this smartphone would have worked a little better without the interstitial frame

This element gives this mobile a less refined look and conveys the feeling that its finish is not entirely polished, so I think it would have been preferable if the glass fit directly into the peripheral aluminum frame. The absence of structural elements to act as intermediaries is stylish, and I honestly think that the design of this smartphone would have worked a little better without this interstitial frame .

Its AMOLED screen convinces, but what makes you fall in love is the 120-watt load

The screen of this mobile phone is fantastic. Just take a look at its specifications to realize that it promises. The resolution of its 6.67-inch AMOLED panel is not impressive (it has 2400 x 1080 dots), but it works at a refresh rate of 120 Hz; It has a typical brightness delivery capacity of 800 nits, which amounts to 1000 nits peak when the content or ambient light demands it (according to Xiaomi); And lastly, its native contrast ratio is as high as we can expect from an AMOLED panel: 5,000,000: 1 . As you can see, it's not bad at all.

It sets the rules on the internet, and yet for many people it is a complete stranger: what is the IETF and why is it so influential In xiaomist.com It sets the rules on the internet, and yet for many people it is a complete stranger: what is the IETF and why is it so influential

Beyond its specifications, the really important thing is to check how this screen performs in a real use scenario, and it does it very well. One of its most obvious qualities is that it comes out very well calibrated from the factory, which shows that Xiaomi has put the batteries in this area. Their high-end mobiles from previous years didn't come off the production line as well tuned as this one. In addition, its ability to deliver brightness is up to the mark in spaces with lots of ambient light. It performs well even when the sun is shining directly on the screen, and this is rare, not even on premium terminals.

Xiaomi11tpro screen

On the other hand, the Snapdragon 888 processor of this smartphone moves the MIUI 12.5 interface, which is the customization layer that Xiaomi has placed on Android 11, with absolute fluidity . And the latency that we must endure when we launch apps and jump from one to another is minimal. We have already analyzed several high-end mobile phones that incorporate this chip (some from Xiaomi itself, such as the Mi 11 Ultra ), and it has shown us that it is a little beast. Still, in our in-depth review of the 11T Pro we'll be looking for the tickle.

Xiaomi11tpro settings

When it comes to sound quality, this mobile has a good level. Xiaomi assures that its engineers have worked hand in hand with the Harman Kardon technicians to fine-tune and equalize the audio that it delivers to us. From the outside it is difficult to identify the scope that the contributions of this last company have had, but the truth is that the speakers of this smartphone manage to reach a considerable sound pressure level without distortion getting out of hand . And it is not easy to do so when you have tiny speakers that are forced to deliver the most dignified bass possible. Also, like many other high-end mobiles, this 11T Pro virtualizes Dolby Atmos sound.

Xiaomi11tproprofile

And, finally, we come to what is undoubtedly one of the strongest assets of this mobile: its loading speed. Xiaomi gives us together with him a 120 watt transformer that in our tests has managed to charge its 5000 mAh battery from 0 to 100% in just 24 minutes . It is a real pass.

According to Xiaomi after 800 full charge cycles the battery of this mobile maintains at least 80% of its original capacity

But the best of all is that it is enough to connect it to the electrical current for 5 minutes to add between 35 and 40% of additional charge, which can get us out of more than one trouble. An important note in this area: Xiaomi ensures that the double cell battery of this terminal guarantees us 800 charge cycles with a degradation of less than 20%. This simply means that after those 800 full charge cycles the battery will maintain at least 80% of its original capacity.

A photographic section with many lights and some faint shadows

Those responsible for the Spanish subsidiary of Xiaomi are honest. During the presentation of this smartphone they recognized that marketing has been an important factor in opting for the 108 megapixel sensor that incorporates the main camera of this mobile.

However, this by no means means that it is not a good choice; it simply means that they are aware that some users choose the terminal that has more megapixels . That is all. The optics that work in tandem with this pickup have an aperture value of f / 1.75.

Einstein was good at mathematics and was always an outstanding student: why the story that defends otherwise is a myth In xiaomist.com Einstein was good at mathematics and was always an outstanding student: why the story that defends otherwise is a myth

The ultra-wide-angle camera is supported by an 8-megapixel sensor and an lens with an aperture value of f / 2.2. Its angle of view (FOV) is 120º . And finally, the third camera of the module housed in the back of this mobile phone uses a 5 megapixel sensor and an lens with an aperture value of f / 2.4.

According to Xiaomi, this camera is capable of focusing automatically at a minimum distance of 3 cm because, among other things, it is responsible for taking the shots in macro mode. Later in this section of the article, we'll see how it performs.

Xiaomi11tprocameras

And, finally, the time has come to see how the rear cameras of this smartphone perform in a real-life scenario. In the first photograph we have not made it difficult because the outline of the object in the foreground is approachable and the ambient light was abundant. In any case, as we can see, the background blur is uniform and the detail level of the foreground subject is high. First point in favor of the 11T Pro.

Xiaomi11tprotoma1 Photo captured in automatic mode and with maximum background blur ('bokeh').

In the following photo we have made it a little more difficult for the 11T Pro. Ambient light was not a problem because it was abundant, but, unlike the previous image, this time the outline of the hair of the person in the foreground does represent a challenge when it comes to solving the background blur due to its irregularity. The result, as you can see, is very good. This mobile has managed to accurately identify each hair and clearly separate it from the background, which is intensely out of focus. Another point in favor of this smartphone.

Xiaomi11tprotoma2 Photo captured in automatic mode and with maximum background blur ('bokeh').

I took the next picture at sunset, about 30 minutes before night fell completely. The light was starting to fade, and even so, the level of detail in the buildings is not bad at all, and the noise is practically imperceptible. However, what the 11T Pro has not resolved correctly in these circumstances is the sky. As you can see, it appears completely white, without detail, and it was not like that. It was full of bluish and reddish colors, but that information has been lost because of the way this mobile has resolved the highlights . This point is not left to the 11T Pro.

Xiaomi11tprotoma3 Photograph taken in automatic mode.

The following photos reflect the impact HDR has on highlights and dimly lit regions. As you can see, when you activate it, this mobile phone is able to recover more information in the shadow areas, but the more illuminated regions become saturated and lose a part of their chromatic richness. When we analyze it thoroughly, we will see if this behavior extends to other shooting scenarios.

Xiaomi11tprotoma4

We also took the following photograph during sunset, but, as we can see, this smartphone has not had any problems with the light . In the next two snapshots we will repeat this capture, but we will introduce 5x and 10x zoom to see what impact it has on the level of detail and the overall image quality of the photograph.

Xiaomi11tprotoma5 Photograph taken in automatic mode with 1x 'zoom'.

When introducing the 5x zoom in the same scene of capture of the previous photograph the noise increases slightly, but the level of detail is high enough to allow us to read the sign with the name of the street effortlessly. The overall quality of this image is not bad at all (ambient light was beginning to fade).

Xiaomi11tprotoma6 Photograph taken in automatic mode with 5x 'zoom'.

By introducing the 10x zoom , which is strictly digital, in the capture scene of the previous photographs the interpolation algorithm causes the noise to increase significantly . We can also see that the level of detail suffers significantly, so it is preferable not to resort to such a demanding zoom , unless circumstances leave us no other option.

Xiaomi11tprotoma7 Picture taken in automatic mode with 10x 'zoom'.

The macro mode of the 11T Pro has left a great taste in my mouth. In the following photograph we can see that he has managed to recover a lot of detail, and, in addition, the depth of field is not bad at all. I also find it worthwhile that this mobile has managed to focus without any difficulty at the 3 cm distance that I placed it from the irregular stone surface.

Xiaomi11tprotoma8 Photograph taken in macro mode.

The night mode has also left me a pleasant taste in my mouth in this first contact with this smartphone. In the following photograph we can see that the noise is practically imperceptible, and, in addition, the level of detail that it manages to deliver is high. In fact, it's not easy to resolve the texture of this statue with the credibility with which the 11T Pro has.

Xiaomi11tprotoma9 Photograph taken in night mode.

In the last photo we make it a little more difficult. It is taken, like the previous snapshot, using night mode, but this time the room was plunged into deep gloom. Ambient light was very poor, and yet the 11T Pro has managed to keep noise under control and retrieve a lot of information in regions of the statue that minimally reflect ambient light.

Xiaomi11tprotoma10 Photograph taken in night mode.

It's ready to fight on the high end, but what makes it fearsome is its 120-watt load

As we have seen throughout this article, this Xiaomi smartphone has the necessary qualities for us to look at it whenever, yes, its price fits into the budget that we have set. It has a careful design, a fairly refined finish, first-division specifications , and, finally, cameras that, as we have just seen, offer us a very interesting performance.

What makes the undisputed difference in favor of this 11T Pro is its loading speed

All this is very good, but we can also find it in some of the terminals with which it will compete. What indisputably makes the difference in favor of this 11T Pro is its loading speed . And it is that taking the battery from 0 to 100% in just over 20 minutes is a real joy.

In addition, it is not something anecdotal because in practice this feature can get us out of a lot of trouble. It is enough to connect it to the electrical current for a few minutes so that its autonomy is significantly increased . And this is very good. We are looking forward to testing it thoroughly so that we can share with you our final assessment of a mobile phone that will possibly give a lot to talk about.
