{Disarmed} Pixel 3 & 3 XL suddenly bricked, Google still has no official explanation
If you happen to be a user of the Pixel 3 series, you may encounter unexpected problems. Because without any warning, many devices are suddenly supposed to be bricked, meaning that they are completely unusable. The problem is being reported by more and more users on the Google forums and Reddit, and it is also mentioned repeatedly in the news.
The problem is allegedly related to a software update, although user reports suggest that the problem still occurs without an update. According to the information available so far, the smartphones of the Google Pixel 3 series switch off randomly and completely by themselves.
In some cases the devices are rendered completely unusable, while in other cases they are supposed to boot into a mode known as EDL, or Emergency Download. It is not clear what could be causing this, nor is there any information about a workaround for this error.
While the number of user complaints is increasing significantly, Google has not yet issued a statement or at least confirmed the existence of such a problem. It is also unclear what exactly could be the cause as it is not entirely understandable what the problem is according to users' reports.
The Pixel 3 has been around for three years, which means the devices' official warranty coverage should have expired for most. It remains to be seen what will become of this problem in the next few days.
