Lenovo Tab P12 Pro: an ultra-vitamin Android tablet whose screen you can use as a second monitor for your PC

Google may have (a little) abandoned tablets , but tablets certainly don't want to abandon Android. Of course that is what the new Lenovo Tab P12 Pro and also the Lenovo Tab P11 5G demonstrate.

The first is an interesting alternative to the iPad Pro for its creative options and its fantastic (and huge) screen, while the second is also a striking option for those who want to enjoy content and that also stands out for its native 5G connectivity. And for dessert, pay attention to Project Unity , an option to use these tablets as something more than auxiliary screens of our PC or laptop.

The tablet that wants to be more than that

We are facing what is probably the most ambitious tablet in the history of Lenovo. Here, high-end hardware is combined with some software elements that we will talk about later and that also seem to point to important aspirations not only to enjoy content, but also for creatives and even professionals.

P12 2

The Lenovo Tab P12 Pro stands out in the first place for that huge 12.6-inch AMOLED screen that also adopts a 16:10 format (with some valuable pixels more of vertical resolution) and that also raises support for a refresh rate of 120 Hz. .

That makes us have a promising fluidity for all the contents, but also that is combined with the support of HDR10 + and Dolby Vision and that maximum brightness of 600 nits that of course make the screen a clear protagonist of the experience that Lenovo wants to offer. .

The Snapdragon 870 is also a valuable ally in all kinds of scenarios, and it can be accompanied by up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of storage that can turn this tablet into a unique team for creatives and work.

The design of the tablet stands out for its quite reduced frames and especially for a really contained thickness of just 5.63 mm . On the side, by the way, we find a power button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor.

That's where your new peripherals can play an important role. First of all, the Lenovo Precision Pen 3 , which magnetically "sticks" to the back of the tablet but also does so with a surprise: it charges wirelessly while attached to that back. Its action button is also customizable, and the application that controls it is even capable of helping us locate it if we lose it.

P12 3

The keyboard has been adapted to that screen diagonal, something that allows for a comfortable full-size keyboard to work with and with keys that have a 1.3 mm travel. This keyboard also has a built-in touchpad , which makes this binomial to turn the tablet into an interesting laptop that, yes, is based on Android 11.

To guarantee prolonged work and leisure sessions we have the help of the 10,200 mAh battery with which they promise up to 17 hours of content playback via streaming. That battery is helped by the support of fast charging of up to 45 W although yes, the chargers that support such power delivery are sold separately. In the box we will find a 30 W charger.

The Lenovo Tab P11 5G falls in the shadow of its older sister

The Lenovo Tab P11 5G is a somewhat more compact alternative (the 11 inches, yes, it is not a small thing) but also ambitious, especially for its native 5G connectivity option thanks to the Snapdragon 750G SoC.

Q11

That SoC is accompanied by up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of capacity, but it is true that here we lose some integers on the screen (at 60 Hz and with a maximum brightness of 400 nits) and also in other areas such as biometric security , since we do not have a fingerprint reader on the side.

There are other options that are somewhat limited: its 7,700 mAh battery offers up to 12 hours of streaming content playback and fast charging of 20 W. We will also not have access to the Precisio Pen 3 , and instead we will be able to work with the Precision Pen 2, which for example does not offer that magnetic adjustment system to the tablet or the wireless charging of its older brother.

Q11 2

The last disadvantage of this tablet - a review of the model that arrived in January 2021 - is the absence of support for Project Unity , one of the most interesting software elements of Lenovo's proposal. Perhaps the support will arrive with time, but at the moment the only one to have access to this option is the Tab P12 Pro.

Project Unity turns the tablet into a versatile second display

Project Unity is a technology that enables the Lenovo Tab P12 Pro to be used as a second display for Lenovo computers with Windows 10 or Windows 11.

Unity Lenovo

With this software tool it is possible to wirelessly pair a PC or a laptop with these operating systems and make them behave like that auxiliary screen that allows extending the conventional Windows desktop to the tablet and replicating the work surface or obtaining additional space when be necessary.

In fact, unlike other alternatives to take advantage of that second screen, in Project Unity it is possible to continue using Android applications on this tablet while also using it as a secondary screen.

That can be done in parallel and without compromise so you can get the best of both worlds . This hybrid environment allows, for example, to make videoconferences on the PC while using the touch screen to draw and share them on the virtual whiteboard of the call, or to present a PowerPoint on the PC and maintain access to the notes on the tablet.

Thus it is possible that the extended Windows desktop coexists with Android applications that we have open - for example, with a small window of a video player that acts in a similar way as a Picture in Picture (PiP) system would - and allows that Let's drag Windows application windows from one screen to another naturally.

Price and availability of the Lenovo Tab P12 Pro and Lenovo Tab P11 5G
