{Disarmed} The FP Law has been approved: this is how vocational training will change with new degrees and more presence in companies

Green light for the new Law on Vocational Training . The Council of Ministers has approved this project that establishes important changes in the education of our country, both in the current higher cycles and for those who aspire to many jobs that from now on will require their own qualifications.

With a budget of more than 5,000 million euros, the new VET comes with several objectives in mind, from making the different modules more flexible (with more levels) to promoting the role of the sector in education, with an increase in the minimum hours that the Students must pass in the company .

These are the main changes and what we know about the proposal of the Ministry of Education to change vocational training in our country.

New grades from A to E

The new educational proposal considerably expands the number of levels with which a worker can prove their level of knowledge. We will have from Grade A to Grade E, the first being the most basic and accrediting partial competence to the most advanced, which would be equivalent to a higher degree together with a specialization course.

This new structure will be aimed at both students and workers who want to obtain a degree for their skills. Expanding as we say the range of possibilities with the most basic grade A that covers microformations , from 30 to 50 hours, up to Grade E, which would be for advanced courses , with a duration of between 300 and 800 hours.

• Grade A: Partial accreditation of competences
• Grade B: Certificate of Professional Competence
• Grade C: Professional Certificate
• Grade D: Training Cycles (Basic Grade, Middle Grade and Higher Grade)
• Grade E: Specialization courses (specialist degree and Professional Master)

The former middle grades would be positioned as grades C or D, while the current upper FP cycles will be relocated as grades D. It is precisely these levels where the new law establishes dual vocational training.

In the case of degrees E, they can be understood as university master's degrees but with a shorter and more limited duration.

Dual training with more time in companies

In the case of grades C, D and E, dual training is established between the educational center and the private company. There will be two types, one more focused on the educational part and the other advanced, with a contractual relationship with the company that will assume up to 40% of the training expenses.

In general VET it is established that between 25 and 35% of the training will be done in companies, the latter assuming up to 20% of the contents and their evaluation. On the other hand, there will be advanced training where the time in the company will be "greater than 35% of the total duration of the training" .

With these percentages, the time that students will spend in the company increases and the responsibility that these companies may have in training is expanded, participating together with the centers in the evaluation and content .

The new FP Law will oblige the creation of the figure of the dual tutor. A designated person in the company who will act as a liaison between the company and the educational center.

Projects and validation with the university

The law has different novelties to complement this professional training, almost always with an eye on officially recognizing different competencies that were not listed to date. Workers who have acquired some of these skills will be able to obtain an accrediting document and will be accompanied by a plan to continue training .

Another requirement of these degrees will be the completion of an intermodular project. In the basic degree cycles there will be one in the whole cycle, while in the higher ones there will be one a year with a duration of 25 hours .

The electives will also have a presence in the upper grades, in a similar way to the university world, their number and what subjects will be covered by the competent administrations.

The relationship between the professional training of these degrees and the university is intended to reinforce, recognizing different itineraries and allowing VET students to validate up to 25% of the credits of a similar degree.
