Apple event: once everything a little different, please! - xiaomist headlines

Apple announced some new iPhones, iPads, and a new Apple Watch this week. In this issue of xiaomist Headlines you can find out what they do differently than their predecessors and what else has happened in the past few days.

The Apple Event in a fast run

It's September, so it's time for Apple's annual iPhone event. Here is the conference in a fast run:

The iPad now gets the A13 bionic chip with 20 percent better performance compared to its predecessor, plus a new 12 MP ultra-wide-angle front camera. It enables the "Center Stage", which means that the camera section follows the person in video calls. This is a useful feature that we already know from the iPad Pro. The new iPad mini now has an "All Screen Design", as Apple calls it. Realistically: it still has margins and that's okay too. Plus a USB-C instead of a Lightning port.

Apple Watch Series 7

The Apple Watch Series 7 now has a 20 percent larger display with the same size, thanks to thinner edges. It is also now IP6X certified for the first time, i.e. officially dustproof. Fast charging enables the battery to be charged from 0 to 80 percent in 45 minutes.

iPhone 13

In this generation, the "True Depth" camera was newly developed. As a result, the incision in the display was 20 percent smaller. Thanks to a new layout in the housing, the battery now has more space and the battery life has been increased by up to 2.5 hours, depending on the model. Also: The new A15-Bionic Chip with 6 CPU cores, 4 GPU cores and 16 neural engine cores.

iPhone 13 Pro

The display is 25 percent brighter and "ProMotion" adapts the refresh rate to the content somewhere between 10 and 120 Hz. Videos can now be recorded in 4k30 with the Apple ProRes Codec - at least in the large storage versions. The iPhone 13 Pro is now also being offered for the first time in a version with a terabyte of storage.

Our colleague Sven has summarized more highlights from the Apple event:

Pixel 6 Pro: display good, benchmark works like this

This year we have the new Pixel devices ahead of us and it could be that Google has gambled away a little.
As Phandroid has reported, the first benchmark results of the Pixel 6 with its own tensor chip have apparently leaked. And they are overwhelming.
According to the screenshot, the Pixel 6 Pro has a Geekbench score of 414 in the single core and 2,074 in the multi-core.
For comparison: Samsung's Galaxy S21 Ultra achieved 1,134 in the single-core and 3,322 in the multi-core test.
So has Google done itself a favor by turning away from Qualcomm Snapdragon SoCs?

At least there were other positive Pixel 6 leaks: The Pro model is said to be equipped with a 120 Hz display with WQHD + resolution.

New Huawei Phones in Europe

As GSMArena reports, Huawei invites you to the European launch in Vienna in October.
What we can expect there is not revealed, but the picture on the invitation suggests the P50. So: after waiting for a while, is another smartphone coming onto the market outside of China?
That would be desirable, but we cannot imagine that Huawei's HarmonyOS would be particularly attractive in this country.

Steam Deck: The first handhelds are being shipped

Because Valve has sent the development kits to developers so that titles can be optimized specifically for the Steam Deck before the launch. For the rest of us, however, the wait continues, and we can expect the first consoles to be shipped around December.
However, the rush to the handheld seems to be great: If you decide to pre-order now, you can wait until the 2nd quarter of 2022 for delivery.
