Huawei Mate 40 series receives HarmonyOS beta on December 16

HarmonyOS, Huawei's proprietary operating system, is finally finding its way onto smartphones. The first beta version will be available as early as December 16, 2020, and the Huawei Mate 40 series will be the first to receive the upgrade.

Mai Yumin, vice president of Huawei's software division, has announced that the beta version of HarmonyOS (or HongMeng OS in China) will be available on smartphones on December 16. It has been confirmed that the Huawei Mate 40 series flagships will be the first to receive the update.

HarmonyOS should offer support for Android applications, so that you can continue to use your favorite apps. More than 90 percent of the Huawei models currently available on the market are to be updated to HarmonyOS, but it remains to be seen whether this will actually be the case in the near future.

In addition to smartphones, HarmonyOS will also find its way into many other products. It is to be used in cars and IoT products in the future.
