How to convert your Xiaomi microSD card into internal memory

The digital age has brought with it the need for ample storage on our smartphone . This forces us to always have free space on our Xiaomi, especially with regard to internal storage , which we can also obtain through a microSD card .

Converting the SD card into internal memory allows us to expand the possibilities of our smartphone. If this is good and of quality , we can store applications and other system files , truly expanding the storage of our Xiaomi.

Still, by default MIUI does not allow us to convert a microSD card into internal storage . Although this option is only available in certain versions, the vast majority of Xiaomi devices lack this option.

Fortunately, we can activate the conversion of the microSD into internal memory through an application that we have already seen before. Thanks to Activity Launcher and as it happened with the MIUI 12 Super Wallpapers , activating this option is very simple.

Convert the SD card into internal memory of our Xiaomi

In order to convert the microSD card into the internal memory of our Xiaomi, we must install the Activity Launcher application that is available on Google Play . Once done, we will only have to carry out the following steps:

  1. Enter Activity Launcher and look for the option « Files « Convertir tarjeta microSD o SD en memoria interna Xiaomi. Noticias Xiaomi A
  2. After clicking on this, a list will be displayed. In this we click on the second option of «Files» which calls « ViewDonloadsActivity «.
  3. Then the file manager will open with new options. Convertir tarjeta microSD o SD en memoria interna Xiaomi. Noticias Xiaomi A
  4. From here we will go to the SD card, click on the upper options (three dots) and access the Storage Settings . From this we can Format the microSD as internal storage.

In this way and after restarting our Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO, we will have converted the microSD card into internal storage , merging with the terminal's own storage. Of course, do not forget to use a good SD card, which is of quality and as fast as possible like these that we recommend for your Xiaomi .

It should be noted that if we want to reverse this process, it will be enough to move the device's microSD card and restart it later . This will cancel the merger between internal memory and the card.

  6. It is May 2023 and it worked perfectly with my Poco X3 NFC. I used a U30/A2 sd card and I don't see any noticeable difference in everyday performance. N.B. I don't play games on that phone, mainly browsing, news, YT, Spotify and social media. Great post, thanks a lot.

    1. Hi there.
Would you mind sharing what you did exactly and if you were on MIUI 14?
I tried this with a Samsung Evo Plus 256GB card and it went fine until the format was complete. Then it asked me for my password in order to move files to the SD card but it didn't accept the password. I chose 'transfer later' and it said it's ready to use but in fact the SD card was missing and not counted in the storage. I did a reboot, no luck. The card was not detected by the phone anymore, had to go and re-format it in windows disk management in order to fix it.

    2. 29 May 2023: It did work for my old Redmi 7A with MIUI 12.5.2. The only remark is that it formatted the entire SD card, 64 GB in my case. Before, I tried another prescription permitting to attach only part of the SD to the internal storage, but the result was strange: the phone continued complaining about the lack of internal memory. Let us see how the phone will behave now. I use it only for calling, messaging and WhatsApp, with occasional googling. Thank you, Xiaomist!
