Transport turnaround: Berlin is sending completely wrong signals
The topic of traffic turnaround has been a hot topic for years. Overcrowded cities, traffic jams and increasingly scarce parking space - these are the problems of all cities.
So it's good to have a functioning public transport system. Berlin-Brandenburg is probably one of the areas in Germany that has the greatest problems with traffic.
You naturally think that public transport will be strengthened. But Berlin has only known one recipe against it for years - constant price increases. And this will be the case again in 2021.
The Berlin-Brandenburg transport association is sending the completely wrong signals. While other metropolises are thinking about making local public transport free of charge, prices in Berlin and Brandenburg are rising again.
And with the currently extremely low prices for petrol and diesel, there will never be a real traffic turnaround! Because while the prices of public transport continue to rise, the expenses for drivers are falling.
So it's clear that you can't get the cars out of town like that, of course. And honestly, you can't get rid of the feeling that this is not what you want!
Because if you really wanted to make people forego the car, then you would lower the prices, not increase them. It doesn't have to be free!
But it will not work again with a car-free city!
Fares in the entire tariff area will rise by an average of around 1.9 percent in 2021. Single tickets in Berlin AB rise by ten cents to EUR 3.00 and the day ticket by 20 cents to EUR 8.80.
The senior citizens' annual ticket 65+ is also getting more expensive for the first time in 5 years, by EUR 12.00 to EUR 624.00.
New tariffs in Berlin:
- Single ticket from 3.00 euros - previously 2.90 euros
- Short-haul 2.00 euros - previously 1.90 euros
- 4-ticket normal 9.40 euros - previously 9.00 euros
