Threema becomes open source. Developers can now also see the messenger's source code. This was considered safe, but nobody knew the code.
Threema is not only going to be open source, the developers have also found new donors. The German-Swiss investment company Afinum Management AG from Zurich could be won as a donor.
This should help the Messenger, which comes from Switzerland and is popular there and in Germany, can continue to grow. One now wants to attack the non-German-speaking European area.
"This comprehensive transparency allows everyone to independently check the security and functionality of Threema and to verify that the published source code matches the installed app."
Threema
Threema will fully disclose the app source code in the next few months. This is now an offensive counter to the criticism of data protection activists who had repeatedly criticized the fact that they had no insight into the source code.
The developers also announced that Threema should work better on multiple devices in the future. Parallel use on the smartphone or PC is therefore possible without leaving any trace of personal data on the servers.
