Just because someone has contracted the coronavirus does not mean that we should isolate that person from everyone else immediately. Many people who test positive for the coronavirus may have little virus in them, may already have inactive viruses, so they are not harmful to the environment. So are the tests used too sensitive?
Or so says Dr. Michael Mina of the Harvard School of Public Health. According to Mina, the PCR genetic tests commonly used to control the development of the epidemic are expensive, time-consuming and too sensitive, since they can detect not only people carrying the virus, but all carriers.
The problem, however, is that most of these carriers do not pose any threat to the environment. The coronavirus can only be spread for about a week, two days before the first symptoms appear and five days after they appear. Neither sooner nor later is the carrier a risk.
Moreover, if a patient is tested after the first symptoms appear, he or she will infect others before receiving the test results. So we have two problems here.
The tests must be fast , cheap and widely available
After six months of the pandemic, everyone knows that it is impossible to stop the coronavirus completely by catching all vectors and isolating them from a healthy part of society. Coronavirus is everywhere. Hence and it is necessary to change the fight against him. According to Dr. Mina, the tests should be widely available, not only in hospitals or health centers, but also in shopping centers, workplaces or schools, so that the infected can be identified and identified as soon as possible. In such a situation, even if the test misses someone, it will catch them if corrected a few hours later or the next day.
If everyone around you has quick and cheap tests for the coronavirus at your disposal, carrying out extensive screening tests could significantly reduce the number of new infections in a very short time.
The tests don't have to, or shouldn't, be very accurate
Under the new dogma, the focus should be not on carriers of the coronavirus, but on carriers. It is they who are responsible for the formation of fires when, as part of this short, weekly contagion window, they show up at a meeting where more people will be, for example at a wedding or a family event. If the super-bear would also use a quick and cheap coronavirus test before such a meeting, the entire outbreak would be eliminated.
Here it should be noted that such a test does not have to be very accurate. It is enough for it to detect carriers, and to let the carriers pass. By eliminating the super-bearer from the congregation, the safety of others could be ensured, even if some of them were non-contagious vectors. Researchers from the School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in London indicate that 80 percent. infections correspond to only 10 percent. infected.
Solution - antigen tests
Although at the beginning of the pandemic, until a few months ago, such tests did not exist, now there are antigen tests available on the market, the execution of which takes literally a few minutes, and the results of which already have a specific value. Abbott, the manufacturer of antigen tests, indicates that their product may mistakenly believe about 3 percent of actually infected people are healthy. Although this is not an ideal result, it is worth remembering that a frequently performed test of this type will catch the patient on the next attempt.
On the other hand, tests incorrectly recognize 1.5 percent healthy people for infected people. Of course, in such a situation, you can catch this error by performing a different test targeting a different coronavirus protein. In the event of a positive result in a person from the group particularly exposed to the coronavirus, the second test should be the full PCR genetic test.
Meanwhile, in our backyard
Specialists from the Łukasiewicz Research Network are developing rapid screening tests for the presence of coronavirus. According to the plans, the tests will detect the presence of structural virus proteins in its envelope. Thanks to this, scientists will be able to determine the actual presence of SARS-CoV-2 in the tested sample, and not just antibodies.
On the basis of a smear from the mouth, throat, nose or saliva, using the test, it will be possible to determine the presence of coronavirus within 20-40 minutes - argue the company's representatives. Currently, the final confirmation of coronavirus infection in Poland are genetic PCR tests.
Paranoia. We do bad coronavirus tests all the time and isolate the wrong people
Really, This is an impressive as well as Useful post for me. I got the most valuable and informative information from here about Rapid Coronavirus testing center in New York. Thanks for sharing, I request you to keep sharing such blogs.
