Huami announces Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2

Huami just announced two new smartwatches. The Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 were presented.

The Huami Amazfit GTR 2 is the second iteration of the GTR series and comes on the market with a battery life of 14 days. It also has new health-related features like blood oxygen detection and can also monitor sleep patterns.

The watch is equipped with a 3D glass on the top, which is surrounded by a ceramic bezel. The glass is also coated with a diamond-like carbon coating to prevent scratches during use and has a hardness of 9H, which is comparable to that of sapphire.

The display is a 1.39 ″ AMOLED panel with 328 ppi and a maximum brightness of 450 nits. It's also slimmer than the previous generation and has two buttons on the right. There are two versions of the new smartwatch available, namely a classic model with a stainless steel case and a leather strap or a sports model with an aluminum alloy case and a silicone strap.

The Amazfit GTR 2 is equipped with the latest optical sensor BioTracker 2 PPG, with which, in addition to the heart rate of the user, the oxygen saturation of the blood can also be checked. Huami said the saturation readings can go as high as 96 percent, which is almost what a professional oximeter used specifically for the job. The company has also developed a new sleep monitor that works with the blood oxygen detection feature to map the user's breathing cycles while they sleep.

In other words, it also maps blood oxygen levels at night. The wearable also has a built-in PAI health rating system that converts the various health data collected over time into values ​​that can later be read through the use of algorithms.

The Amazfit GTR 2 also has 12 different sport modes that it can automatically detect and is waterproof up to 50 meters. In addition, it has important connection options such as Bluetooth and can also be connected to wireless headphones.

4 GB of internal memory are available for storing music. The latest Huami wearable is supported by both Android and iOS smartphones, has the XiaoAI voice assistant and can even connect to WiFi to download music directly without a paired handset. GPS and GLONASS are also supported.

Battery life can be up to 14 days with regular use and around 38 days when used as a simple watch. The device still supports NFC for various payments and also other security functions.

The other wearable that Huami announced in the press conference is the Amazfit GTS 2. This device has a thinner and lighter design compared to the GTR 2, but still has the same diamond-like coating for extra protection.

In contrast to the GTR 2, however, the Amazfit GTS 2 has a rectangular 1.65 "AMOLED display with 341 ppi and rounded corners. It also has 450 nits of maximum brightness.

The watch has an anodized metal body that is available in three colors, namely Obsidian Black, Streamer Gold and Delphin Gray. There are also 12 sport modes here and in the future it should support up to 90 different modes. The watch shares the same PAI health system and smart functions. The battery life is around 7 days with regular use and 20 days when used as a simple watch.

The price of the Amazfit GTR 2 is 999 yuan (approx. EUR 125.00) for the sport variant and 1,099 yuan (approx. EUR 138.00) for the classic variant. The Amazfit GTS 2, on the other hand, costs 999 yuan (approx. EUR 125.00).

Both smartwatches will be available in China from September 23, 2020.
