Google maps will show the travel time by 50 percent. specifically. The bigger the city, the better the estimate
Google Maps will become much more accurate in estimating travel times. It will happen thanks to cooperation with DeepMind and their neural network.
Google Maps is probably the most popular navigation system in the world. They are not perfect, but they are free, so they outweigh most of the competition at the outset.
The list of deficiencies and shortcomings is extensive, and Google decided to improve the parameter, which can irritate drivers especially in large cities, especially during rush hours. I am talking about the estimated time of arrival to the place.
The travel time on Google Maps is expected to work much better in large cities.

Google Maps calculates travel time live based on a whole series of variables, including traffic, information about road works, and driving habits. Travel times are generally fairly accurate on long journeys, but the problem arises when the city becomes congested.
In this case, time can jump up to an hour from the initial one, which can increase the pressure for many drivers. It often turns out that we leave the traffic jam after several minutes, and then the time returns to its original value, i.e. it is reduced by several dozen minutes.
Now, such situations are to be less due to the cooperation of Google and DeepMind , a company specializing in creating the architecture of neural networks (artificial neural networks). The idea is basically very simple. DeepMind has developed a technology that divides routes into small sections made up of individual streets or segments between intersections.
The system takes into account the time needed to stand at traffic lights and the like. Chopping the route into hundreds of tiny segments is supposed to work much better than the system developed by Google. The DeepMind solution can also analyze in real time how much traffic will loosen when drivers start using the side streets to avoid traffic jams.
Basically, the bigger the city, the more profit from DeepMind's algorithms.

The correctness of determining the travel time will increase significantly in such agglomerations as Berlin, Jakarta, Sao Paulo, Sydney, Tokyo and Washington. Generally, we are talking about the level of 20-30 percent. more accurate, but the system can also record results by as much as 50 percent. better. An example is Taizhong in western Taiwan with a population of 2.8 million.
The cooperation between Google and DeepMind will also cover other areas, including e.g. recommendation algorithms in the Google Play store. I wonder if we will feel any differences in the near future when driving around Poland with Google Maps. It can be expected that this is just a matter of - nomen omen - of time.
