Huawei yesterday lifted the curtain on HarmonyOS 2.0 and thus presented the second iteration of its self-developed operating system. The company also confirmed that it intends to launch smartphones using the new platform in 2021.
Now a representative from Huawei has confirmed to the Android Authority that you don't necessarily have to buy a new smartphone to experience HarmonyOS.
"Yes, devices running the new EMUI 11 based on distributed technology will be eligible for an upgrade to HarmonyOS in the future."

It is unclear whether the upgrade to HarmonyOS will be available for all devices running EMUI 11, or whether Huawei will only offer the upgrade for certain devices running the new Android skin.
It's also unclear whether this will be a mandatory change or an optional upgrade. Nonetheless, it all sounds extremely exciting.
HarmonyOS 2.0 has still not been seen on a smartphone, so you can't be entirely sure what to expect. However, the company previously announced cross-device integration and data transfers, smarter speech recognition, and improved security.
Huawei's future will be exciting, also because HarmonyOS has to prove that it is really already for smartphones.
