Apple is not letting the COVID-19 pandemic get in the way of the usual September event, even if it will be clearly different this time.
The company today announced a virtual event for September 15 at 1:00 p.m. local time.
As expected, the company is not giving any real guidance on what to expect. The Apple logo swirled in blue offers no obvious clues. A mix of official news and unofficial leaks, however, could give an idea of what is on display in Apple Park.
Most importantly, there is no guarantee that Apple will be showing the iPhone 12 (or whatever it's called) on September 15th. Apple warned in its latest earnings call that the pandemic would delay the release of its next iPhones for weeks.
Instead, this presentation could focus on at least some of the other devices and software that will hit the market this fall. The Apple Watch Series 6 is a clear candidate for the event, as is rumor of a redesign of the iPad Air.
There was also talk of a smaller HomePod and over-ear headphones from Apple. Apple also likes to announce release dates for software upgrades, and we will probably also find out on September 15 when iOS 14, iPadOS 14, watchOS 7 and macOS Big Sur will arrive.
