Two months ago I wrote here that the Minister of Health, Łukasz Szumowski, during the conference, informing about the obligation to wear masks in stores, said that a rule should be introduced that people without masks should not be supported at all. So what went wrong?
The former minister of health has repeatedly changed his mind from one conference to another, which has resulted in a specific situation of information chaos in the last few months. It is not really known what is a recommendation, what is the applicable law and who has obligations.
I admit that I have not entered the store without a mask for many weeks. In part, this was also due to the belief that entering the store without a mask may result in a fine (rightly), and the seller is not obliged to serve a person without a mask. And here is an example from Suwałki.
District Court in Suwałki and the Minister's recommendations
In mid-July, a young woman without a mask entered one of the stores in the center of Suwałki. The shop assistant standing behind the counter reminded the client that she was obliged to cover her mouth and nose in the shop. The customer refused to comply with the recipe and went to the cash register with her purchases without a mask.
This is where the effect of information chaos appears.
In short: the saleswoman refuses to serve the client without a mask. Outraged customer calls the police. When it is not possible to get the patrol to the store, the determined client without a mask goes to the police station herself and reports to the shop assistant.
We jump a few weeks ahead and ...
The District Court in Suwałki imposes a penalty on the saleswoman, declaring that she has deliberately committed an offense against the consumer's interests and unreasonably refusing to sell the goods to the customer. Penalty: PLN 100.
Who's right?
Well ... the most important information that can be drawn from this whole situation is that you should always check what the applicable regulations are and look through your fingers at what the prime minister or minister says at this or that conference.
It would be good if politicians took responsibility for every word they say and think over what they want to say several times, so that when informing at a conference - often watched by millions of people - they would not misinform.
