The increasing US sanctions have led Huawei to focus more on its survival than on developing cutting edge technology. The US chip ban for Huawei goes into effect on September 15.
According to an Asian report from the Nikkei, Huawei and its suppliers are working around the clock to get as many parts as possible by September 15th.
Huawei is filling its warehouses with 5G cellular chipsets and other components from key suppliers such as MediaTek, Realtek, Novatek and RichWave. According to the source, the company also purchases semi-finished products, again without being tested.
In addition, suppliers such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are trying to fulfill memory chip orders placed earlier this year. For the camera lens, Huawei obtains these from Largan Precision and Sunny Optical Technology.
However, to survive in the long term, the company must address the issues. According to a recent report, Qualcomm could get a license from the US government to supply its Snapdragon chipsets to Huawei.
The upcoming 5-nm HiSilicon Kirin SoC could also be the last high-end Kirin chip from Huawei. Huawei designs its Kirin chips in-house, but uses third parties to manufacture them. TSMC has been the only manufacturer of the high-end Kirin chips for a very long time.
Huawei is currently fully in crisis mode and is trying to somehow get these problems under control and survive the crisis. It is not about anything else.
