Video of the day: Duda, 5G and Hitler are OK, and Trzaskowski is wrong - Google Translate has gone crazy
Is the Polish president harmful? Google Translate says no, because he says "Duda is okay", like Hitler or 5G. Google Translate, however, has other emotions for Rafał Trzaskowski. KO candidate in the 2020 presidential election according to this service is "harmful".
Readers are writing letters to us today asking them to look at Google Translate. It turns out that the automatic online translation service from the creators of the world's largest internet search engine does not treat both presidential candidates, i.e. Andrzej Duda and Rafał Trzaskowski, who is seeking re-election, equally.
You can check how Google Translate works today about Duda and Trzaskowski in the video below.
Of course, nothing prevents you from checking it yourself - and the results may surprise you. We confirmed on several computers in the editorial office that the phrase "[someone / something] is harmful" in Google Translate actually returns extremely different results depending on who we ask.
Andrzej Duda in the eyes of the Google Translate service does not matter, only "is okay".
It looks similar when asking this service about the Law and Justice party.
As for the Civic Platform, according to the translator, it does not differ much from its biggest competitor.
In the case of Rafał Trzaskowski, the answer is quite different - according to Google Translate, this candidate is "harmful".
I also checked how Google Translate reacts to the name Kaczyński, and the result is even more surprising.
"Okay" according to Google Translate are also Stalin ...
... and Hitler ...
but Kim is wrong about that.
Let's return to our country for a moment ...
... and let's ask Google Translate about feelings towards 5G ...
... and LGBT.
Returning to technology, we asked Google about ourselves.
Mountain View has similar feelings for Apple.
Google Translate approaches Microsoft differently, as it treats the Redmond company similarly to Andrzej Duda and Hitler.
The error is admittedly funny, and it is possible that someone has fooled Google's algorithms specifically. However, I hope that the bug will be fixed quickly. I also asked Google to comment on this and received an official statement:
Google Translate works automatically, using patterns from millions of existing translations between multiple languages. Sometimes, some of these patterns can lead to incorrect translations. We are currently working on resolving the error that arose in these and similar cases - explains Adam Malczak from Google Poland
I am also curious what other flavors users will find in Google Translate. There are certainly many other phrases that can produce similar results depending on who or what exactly the user is asking.
