A great racing game that someone killed with a price. Burnout Paradise Remastered for Switch - review

More than 10 years after its premiere, Burnout Paradise fit into a mobile device. The racing game runs on the Nintendo Switch at 60 frames per second, offering surprisingly stable gameplay. Unfortunately, the publisher totally missed the price of the portable version Remastered.

Take me down to the paradise city, where the grass is green and the girls are pretty - the popular song Guns N 'Roses is also the main theme of Burnout Paradise Remastered. The song brings back memories from over a decade ago, when the game debuted on the PS3 and X360 consoles. A big city, a simple driving model, a sense of gigantic speed, as well as full freedom behind the wheel - all this caused that Burnout Paradise gained many dedicated fans. Some of them wonder if it is worth buying the Remastered version for Switch.

Burnout Paradise Remastered for Switch is a one-to-one port with 60 frames per second!

Impressive in that most races on the Nintendo portable console run in 30 frames. EA adds the same amount, while increasing the quality of textures compared to the PS3 / X360 version. The game does not look as good as on PS4 or XONE, but we are also not dealing with a monster in the style of the repulsive, portable The Outer Worlds . The Switch title visually lands between PS3 and PS4, constituting a kind of intergenerational bridge.

These 60 frames per second hold the Switch surprisingly firmly. Cracks, stunt jumps high above the ground, short cuts - in each of these situations the game does not slow down or get stuck. Burnout Paradise Remastered works extremely smoothly and extremely stable. This is a great achievement, which outweighs only one element: the main, widest artery of Paradise City with a lot of lights, intersections and heavy traffic. If I felt a slight jerk anywhere, it was in the concrete center of the party city.

The streets of Paradise City are not as clean as they used to be, but that doesn't bother you.

Stable gameplay in 60 frames has been achieved, among others using a lower resolution. The game in TV mode works in the 900p standard. If it was about Mario or Pokemon, there would be no problems with it. Burnout Paradise Remastered is, however, a title with, although partly, a realistic visual layer. As a result, accurate and detailed graphic design is warped by minor imperfections. Visual garbage is created . It is perfectly visible on all kinds of gates or grates, where the ribs merge with each other, and smoothing the edges is bad.

Teething is much more visible than on PlayStation 4. The shadows are not as dense and clear. These are details that do not matter when rushing through the city to break the neck, but it is worth mentioning them for people who pay attention to such graphic details. Burnout Paradise Remastered is nice but not perfect. Switch has nicer races with a realistic setting, but not necessarily as smooth. Something for something. As a consolation, I will add that Burnout looks much better in mobile mode on the console display.

"Fits Switch" - this time it is absolutely true.

When any new game is announced, many of my friends (including me) immediately say : but I would play it on Switch . The possibility of wireless gameplay on a Nintendo console on an airplane, train or tent is a giant plus of this platform. There is nothing more pleasant than an evening session with Deadly Premonition in the garden or on the balcony with headphones and a drink on the table.

Burnout Paradise Remastered is one of those games that suits a small screen. The pace of this racing production fits perfectly with train travel. You turn on, several quick races, turn off. Without delving into feature meanders, without long dialogue screens and without the need for maximum concentration. The game on a small screen looks nicer than on the TV in the living room, it is very smooth and properly readable. Burnout suits the Switch, performs great on it and still gives a lot of fun. Such a natural, original fun of being the first at the finish.

Unfortunately, EA is killing this product with an absurdly high price.

Burnout Paradise Remastered in the Nintendo digital store currently costs PLN 199. At the same time, we'll get the PS4 or XONE edition for a quarter of this sum. Electronic Arts has shown a complete lack of sense when it comes to pricing. A racing game should cost around PLN 80, such as Capcomu game ports with more than a decade at the nape. EA wants almost as much as for its title for a completely new game. In return, it offers all the extras, including the one with motorbikes and a new exploration area, but it's still not enough for PLN 200 per box.

The biggest advantages:

  • Very stable gameplay at 60 frames per second
  • Great game for large and small screen
  • All add-ons and DLC
  • The same spectacular gameplay I remember from Xbox 360
  • Switch does not have many races, he got a strong representative of the genre

The biggest disadvantages:

  • Electronic Arts has outpaced the price
  • Charging vehicles in the garage for a long time
  • Not as nice game as on PS4 and XONE

Fortunately, Burnout Paradise Remastered will not go anywhere. Sooner or later the game will go under a price cut and will also start appearing on digital sales. Then it's worth giving her a chance. This is one of the best racing productions available on the Nintendo console, as well as one of the more successful ports for this platform.
