Sony will show the first games on PlayStation 5 on Thursday. In a 1080p player with 30 frames per second
The new generation consoles are devices that will close the 4K revolution. Earlier this series and movies did it, then computer games, and now we close the last link of the UHD chain. Unfortunately, Sony will not let us experience the new image quality in games during the official presentation of PlayStation 5.
This Thursday at 22:00 Polish time will be the first presentation of games for PlayStation 5. Maybe we will also see the console itself. The show will last over 60 minutes. During the presentation we will see a certain part of the catalog of starting productions on PS5, as well as games to be released soon after the market debut of the console.
Unfortunately, games in 4K and 60 frames will be seen in 1080p and 30 frames.
Sony decided to inform in advance about the quality of the transmission . We will see the conference only in FHD standard. It's a shame because a lot of next-generation games are expected to run on upcoming consoles in native 4K quality. However, this qualitative leap will not be felt this Thursday, including our own UHD screens during transmission. Shame.
Sony argues with its decision that the material production process in pandemic and social isolation was difficult. As a result, the Japanese giant decided to facilitate remote work for all its partners, reducing the requirements for files transferred between studios and agencies to a value of 1080p, with 30 frames per second.
This probably means that after broadcasting the live presentation, we will not see it a few hours later in 4K format. This is a big blow, especially for video enthusiasts in video games who love to take a closer look at every frame and every detail from upcoming productions. From a marketing point of view, watching 4K games in FHD does not sound like a particularly good idea. On the other hand, for many Internet users, 1080p or 720p transmission is the most adequate value. Same as game resolution.
Of course, this is only a show. The quality of the games will be different.
However, I would expect that in the event of such an important event as the first official presentation of games for PlayStation 5, everything will be buttoned up. Meanwhile, Sony indicates a pandemic, remote work and coronavirus as elements blocking the preparation of 4K transmission. Maybe I demand too much from technology companies, but it seems to me that it is during social isolation that tech corporations have a great chance to show great organization.
If 4K transmission is beyond the strength of a modern console manufacturer, what should I think about the hardware itself? You may call me a malcontent, but after so many months of media silence (not counting the official presentation of the controller) I would expect material forced to the limit. I write this without any malice, only in a sense of slight disappointment, because it is PS5 will be the first console of the new generation, which I will buy with the funds put aside.
Anyway, it promises to be a great, exciting presentation.
More and more rumors are talking about the new Gran Turismo, which we will get immediately for the premiere of the console. We also know that the studies responsible for God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and Marvel's Spider-Man are working on projects at an advanced stage of development. The lobby also mentions something related to the Bloodborne and Demon's Souls brands. And all this is just the tip of the iceberg, which will be over an hour long show.
Sony conference can also be a great opportunity to promote third-party products. Ubisoft has its own Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, and more and more rumors about the new Far Cry. EA has upcoming Battlefield 6, the new Need for Speed and another Star Wars Jedi game. Capcom is said to be on the final straight before Resident Evil 8 advertising campaign begins. Hideo Kojima is also already working on a new project (probably a horror movie).
I can't wait.
