Diablo II is 20 years old today. Let s remember his story
Exactly 20 years ago, hellish forces once again came to the world of Sanctuary. Diablo II is 20 years old today.
On June 29, 2000, the first copies of Diablo II hit the store shelves. In Poland, we could return to the world of the Sanctuary a few days later, because the game was sold with us from July 5, 2020.
To say that Diablo II is a phenomenon is nothing to say. The title over the years has gained the name of an absolutely iconic game, which literally brought up an entire generation of players who are very strong in their thirties today.
Diablo II is widely considered an even better title than the original shown in 1996. The game was more complex and graphically richer. In addition to closed dungeons, open areas also appeared, and each element of the armor was graphically depicted, thanks to which the appearance of our hero constantly evolved.
In addition, the real revolution was loot , because the creators placed in the game incomparably more items than in the first part. Diablo II also introduced multi-player gameplay simultaneously through the Battle.net platform.
As in the case of the first part, it was not without controversy. The brutal, bloody gameplay packed with occult symbols immediately drew the attention of religious circles, and Diablo II itself for years (and now decades) was an example of a game with a particularly bad impact on children and young people.
This did not prevent the game from becoming an absolute classic and a reference point for the entire hack & slash genre.
We had to wait 12 years for Diablo III.
Diablo III was a game awaited by millions of players around the world. When the premiere finally took place in May 2012, many people lined up in the middle of the night in long queues just to make a purchase. As it turned out later, it was very right, because the game sold out in Poland on the trunk. Only a few days later, a new copy of the game could not be found, and traders were selling their own copies with a copy several times.
Despite this hot premiere, a big wave of criticism has fallen on Diablo III. Players criticized the candy, very colorful graphic style, which stood in opposition to the dark graphics of its predecessor. Initially, there was also a number of controversies associated with unbalanced mechanics, and later also with the auction house, where you could sell game items for real money. It wasn't until the 2014 Reaper of Souls expansion that restored Diablo III's widespread respect among players.
Diablo III also got a second life with the release of the console version (2013 on PS3 and Xbox 360; 2014 on PS4 and Xbox One and 2018 on Nintendo Switch). It turned out that playing with the pad in your hand is extremely pleasant, especially if friends sitting next to our team are sitting next to you.
Diablo IV promises to be back to the roots.
Diablo IV was officially announced at BlizzCon in November 2019. We saw then a very atmospheric, beautifully implemented and dark trailer. Hubert Taler had the opportunity to play the fourth installment of the series at BlizzCon and his opinion about the game was very positive .
There is also an official gameplay showing character classes and gameplay. Blizzard drew conclusions and abandoned the candy aesthetics in favor of colder and darker scenery. We'll play Diablo IV - as usual with Blizzard - when "the game is ready".
Let's not forget about the upcoming Diablo II remaster.
Information about Diablo II: Resurrected appeared in May. According to leaks, the game is to be a remaster of the title with preservation of mechanics and with significantly improved graphics. For now, these are unofficial announcements, but the game would be released before the end of the year, and Activision will work on it. Opinions about the production are divided after Blizzard showed the refreshed game Warcraft 3: Reforged, which turned out to be a spectacular flap.
In the meantime, we can enjoy the Polish version of Diablo: Hellfire.
From today players can enjoy the location of Diablo: Hellfire, which is an addition to the first part of the game. And although we are talking about an unofficial locale, work on it lasted a year, and voices were lent by as many as nine professional actors, including people creating the Polonizations of Diablo II and III, including Miriam Aleksandrowicz, Hanna Kinder-Kiss and Aleksander Wysocki, Jarosław Domin and Mirosław Wieprzewski.
