Xiaomi s Poco F1 and Mi 8 had X-ray cameras before the OnePlus 8 Pro!
Recently, the OnePlus 8 Pro was unveiled for its color filter camera, which is able to capture images from the back of thin plastics and clothing. However, it is not the only smartphone that has such capabilities. Two-year-olds POCO F1 and Mi 8 can also capture X-Ray-esque images with IR cameras in front of them.
Xiaomi introduced the IR camera in the Mi 8 to unlock the face in low light conditions. The Poco F1, which was released later that year, came with the same hardware for similar performance.
Some users have used third-party IR camera apps on their phones a few months after they were released to look inside thin plastics. Now, there's even a dedicated app for these two phones called the " IR camera - Poco F1 / Mi8 " in the Google Play Store.
Since the launch of the photochromic filter on the OnePlus 8 Pro, users have been using the app on the Poco F1 to share images on Reddit .
Unlike the OnePlus 8 Pro, there seems to be no significant issue regarding the privacy of the two cameras. This is because the IR camera is located in front of these Xiaomi devices and requires an additional program. While in the OnePlus 8 Pro, the color filter camera is located on the back next to other cameras; And the OnePlus camera app also has an X-Ray filter.
OnePlus issued a statement in a week's time disabling the "photochrom" filter, which is limited to China. In addition, it has confirmed that it will release an OTA update to provide this filter by limiting other features that may be of concern.
