Sony is selling fewer and fewer smartphones
Sony's smartphone sales continue to decline. In the first quarter of 2020, only 400,000 Xperia smartphones could be sold.
Sony has also been battling declining smartphone sales for a long time. Although the situation is not yet as dramatic as with HTC , Sony is also slowly disappearing into the insignificance in the mobile area.
400,000 devices means a decrease of 63.7 percent compared to the previous year, since 1.1 million devices could still be sold in the same period. The forecasts had already been reduced to 700,000 devices in advance, but the fact that this was only achieved by just under half makes the alarm bells ring.
One reason for this is, of course, the coronavirus, which is beating up the numbers everywhere. But this only really came into play at the end of March and has less influence on the bad numbers. And so Sony is also reluctant and has made no estimate for the second quarter.
Sony itself hopes that it will be profitable in the mobile sector again by the end of 2021. This is due to the 5G boom, in which Sony also wants to earn a lot. No one can really say whether this will happen.
